The tea coffee was alright but that was about it. We ordered 3 bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches and a sausage sandwich. The food didn 't take that long to arrive, maybe it should! The bread was so thickly buttered you couldn 't taste the filling, mind the fact there was more butter than filling probably had something to do with that as well. The chips were anaemic, limp and greasy. The icing on the cake was the deep fat fried fly that accompanied my daughters chips. The poor creature as limp and greasy as the food it decorated. We showed the owner and pointed out we were showing as reference rather than complaint even so his attitude surprised me shrugged and a comment of 'well they 're in the air ' he really couldn 't have given a toss! Just over £30 for 2 adults and 2 young children, needless to say we will not be back, a better class of sandwich can be bought from tesco express fly free
Both of us settled on hot roast beef and gravy sandwiches - I opted for chips and my mum chose crisps. The lattes arrived piping hot, a welcome change from the lukewarm drinks at plastic chain cafes. The owner noticed that my mum was struggling with her tablet, so he kindly brought her a glass of water while we waited for our coffees to cool down. The chef soon brought out our food, complete with little pots of gravy. The chips were excellent, the roast beef was tender and delicious, and the entire meal was fantastic. We didn't feel rushed at all, and despite it being our first visit, we felt comfortable and at ease. The regular customers were greeted warmly, like old friends. The cafe itself was bright and airy, with a charming decor featuring mismatched tea cups and candelabras. The cakes were clearly homemade, and the coffee was excellent. The owner was laid back and friendly, making the atmosphere even more enjoyable. Most importantly, my notoriously hard-to-please mum was happy! We noticed that the cafe offers limited evening hours on Fridays and Saturdays, and the evening menu looks enticing. The toasties looked particularly delicious, and I will definitely be returning for another visit.
Coffee ok but nothing special. Would have liked the fact that everything was homemade and freshly prepared but apparently not so on visiting another eatery in Newcastle I noticed there was a delivery of soup which was for Michelangelos and it had been delivered to the wrong address!! How difficult is it to knock up a lovely homemade soup yourself if you have a chef ??
I have had a cappuccino at this place before and it was absolutely delicious! I'm looking forward to trying out the menu there as I'm confident it will be just as amazing!
