Bidra med feedbackTravelling alone, I stayed one night in this wonderful historic hotel, and received a very good evening meal in the restaurant. The location is absolutely central (with excellent parking) and could not be better for enjoying the charms of Southwell and surrounds. The owners have carried out redecoration and a thorough spring-clean during lockdown, which made everything feel fresh and welcoming and showed off all the historical features and antiquities to their best. Everything was in tip-top condition. My room was bright, fresh and very comfortable and my dog was made very welcome. Breakfast was excellent with lots of fresh fruit. The staff were dedicated and attentive. I highly recommend.
Went here with a group of friends for an early Christmas lunch. The King Charles dining room looks the part but every few minutes there is a clock chiming, there are loads of them throughout the Hotel, after a while I found this very annoying. When my meal arrived it was luke warm at best and I eventually found a couple of roast potatoes hiding under the turkey which was cold. The 3 sprouts were raw and inedible. A friend and I asked if we could have some more roast potatoes and the waitress eventually returned with 2 small potatoes in a bowl telling us this was all she had left. What? This is supposed to be a restaurant. I ordered Christmas pudding and when it arrived I remarked to the waitress that they had forgotten to put the Christmas pudding on the plate. The very small round individual pudding had clearly been microwaved with the consistency of rubber and God alone knows what the sauce was that accompanied it because it resemble the texture of custard but was white and tasteless. Retiring to the bar we ordered coffee and having ordered a latte with a double shot I was served one with only a single shot which was replaced by another very weak coffee which I could not drink. The room we were in was so cold that several of the ladies had to put their coats on whilst eating. All in all a very poor dining experience which at £21.95 for 2 courses is not cheap. I most certainly will not be back.
Hi we booked the Minster room for a birthday celebration for 18 people for a Sunday lunchtime. I would like to thank the the staff for herding cats successfully throughout the event, always with a smile and great professionalism. The set up, the food all very good. The previous night in the bar (drink with food) the service and courtesy shown was of stellar proportions never experienced better. The serving staff are a credit to the hotel. For the management have to add that the terrible smell, in the corridor next to reception, often reported here, didn 't emerge until right at the very end. The management do need to address that urgently as it is of show stopping proportions it is so bad, you could not possibly give the venue 5 stars. Nb I did not stay at this hotel/pub
I had dinner here as part of a large group, so we had ordered all our menu choices well in advance. The food was superb, though the portion sizes were rather small (the sort of experience when you look at the plate of food and think 'is that all? ' , and the white gloved waiters did a good job serving despite the difficulties of dealing with a table of some 20 people. But when it came to settling the bill we found that they had got the record of how many people had had 2 course or 3 course meals completely wrong. It should have been easy they knew beforehand who had ordered which meals, the prices were set and just depended on how many courses you had. We paid for any drinks in cash when ordered. I wasn 't involved in the negotiations about the bill, but they went on for ages, with the management appearing to be very uncooperative. They lost a good deal of goodwill (and tips over this, which was a shame because the waiting staff had been pretty good. I have mixed feelings about recommending this place.
We were ravenous and steak beconed. They were thick, large and perfectly cooked. Chips homemade, large and very good The chocolate pud and vanilla ice cream finished the meal and nearly finished me. An exceptionally good honest dinner.
