The Cranberry Arms - Nanaimo

The beer was cold and refreshing, the burger was decent, but the fries were not great. The service was okay, but the issue was the excessive use of vulgar language by the bartender. The atmosphere was not very respectful, with discussions about inappropriate topics among the patrons. It seems that the locals are fine with this behavior, but for outsiders, it may not be a pleasant experience. The restaurant missed an opportunity to appeal to a broader audience by not maintaining a more professional atmosphere. This was during the morning, not late at night. We were disappointed that we stopped by.

Unlike a previous review, this hotel/sub is not permanently closed. Due to personnel problems it was temporarily closed Aug 1 2021. It reopened on 25 October 2021.

The pandemic has taken their toll for people, their way of thinking and constantly trying to cope with the world as it is now. Well, after cleaning our carport deck with power washing everything, get rid of yard stuff, carpet pieces etc. in recycling...Centre I decided to treat us all for lunch. This is a treat because we haven't been in a restaurant for ages and we've never been here, so put on our face masks, we went in. It's the perfect neighborhood pub. Quaint in design. TV on every wall and everyone with another sporting event. One was hockey, another golf, basketball on another, and the fourth wall had car races. There's something for everyone. We ordered a drink each and chose for their bacon/Cheeseburger (for 2 of us) and Don had the chicken strips/currencies. Our server was a pleasure. She helped us with the menu, which was great and when she was finished, she called out everything on the menu. She was right. The drinks were good and the food was really hot when it arrived and everything was delicious. We will return safely if life is more consistent.

We eat here once a week and love it. The food is excellent value and good quality. I can't find gluten, milk or peanuts and personnel always find options for me and are happy to do this (It's rare to find a...Pub that prepares so much of scratches that they are able to offer me like these). You have gluten-free rolls (free of charge), and make some Fab Dressings in the house so milk free! My favorites are their beef dip and Hawaiian burgers (without cheese), both with salad, as the frits are not boiled in separate oil, so not gluten-free. The place itself has a nice warm, friendly atmosphere and fun decor. I recommend the cranberry as a great round local pub.

After spending a day exploring the stunning Hemer Provincial Park, we decided to dine at this charming hotel/pub. We ordered the Sunday roast beef special and the fried chicken dinner, both of which were delicious. It was evident that the restaurant caters to a primarily local clientele. The staff were friendly, the service was excellent, and the dining room was cozy with festive Christmas decorations. The tables were spaced out generously to comply with COVID protocols.
