Bidra med feedbackThis Italian wonder is incredible, high in the hills. italian is only spoken, there are no menus and no tourist food (if we were there). we enjoyed the best pasta we have. to follow every one eaten with delicious meat (veal and huh) delightful atmosphere (al fresco) and very helpful owners (which was very open to signal in absentness of a common language highly recommended and embarrassing cheap. Please note: no cards, cash only
Rest on the hot day. we ate on the terrace overlooking the mountains. the service was polite and efficient (we have communicated in Italian) no antipasto present, but our pasta was homemade. my Ragù sauce was exactly what I was hoping. because the grilled lamb for our main course was not too cooked and not too much, just right. delicious fresh strawberries with sawn finished the meal beautiful. Typical good Italian cuisine.
We consulted travel advisers and the many reviews in the Italian raving over this place led us through sat nav to the hills. my man was the main thing and met with a charming lady who didn't speak English, managed to communicate that although. it wasn't a table for the 5 of us this evening, but to the next evening around 19 o'clock. we have. we were a family of 5. mine man and I, our 7-year-old son and 2 grandparents. this woman greeted us with a wonderfully warm reception, relieved that at least one of us could speak in the table something Italian. the location offered a simple dining table with a look at some amazing view. it was our last night in lunigiana, and based on the reviews, we decided to offer the whole chef to experience. there was no written menu, so wonderfully warm waitress led me gently through the choices in Italian, which completely explained when I did not understand the terminology. we started with antipasti. the dishes were elegant but simply served each as tasty as the next and they stayed on it. roasted broth balls, toscan meat, a cold pack melanzane as ingredients, but cold, my official favorite, tender, melone and cheese and a kind of kartoffel cake. all bites. the Primo course followed, we chose another pasta or risotto each. again, every court has been fully explained so that we could understand. once again the quality was exceptional and the taste to die. all products are produced locally and the dishes are made on request. the meat course we served, we decided again for different dishes to try everything that was in the offer. dessert ended the meal and that was not left off. we drank a beautiful house red with encircled bottle of mineral water and soft drinks for the little man. the bill came and that was when we had a shock. it was only about 25 euro per head. we could not believe that we had been sitting like kings for over 3 hours and for so little money. I can't stress enough how amazing the whole night was. the food, the location and, above all, the true Italian hospitality. if they ever travel in a traffic-rich distance from villafranca, in lunigiana, take the trip to canossa in the hills and visit this wonderful place. I know we'll be back.
Most people never find this place. there are no signs, even in the restaurant itself. you have to knock on the door. but as soon as they are there, they are for a meal of the freshest and most tasty local food in lunigiana. as primo I love the boar and the sausage on a thin pasta called paglia e fieno (straw and hay) super delicious. or the tiny ravioli with butter and sage. everything fresh and just too good. if they have wild boar in the menu for the secondo, do not miss them, they know how to make it right, succulent and never hard! maria paola and francesca serve with gnade and delicate, with their father the king in the kitchen. it is a place to take their friends if they want to show them why Italian cuisine is the best in the world!
Many people imagine Italy as the perfect, tidy and green country full of colours that TV documentaries show us. Unfortunately it is a little bit different, but if you will be patient and willing you will feel the DISCOVERY CHANNEL emotion you are looking for,...reaching this restaurant in the middle of Lunigiana. Here you will see green hills, vineyards and blue sky. Obviously you will do it enjoying the delicious homemade food of this little restaurant, that despite of the difficulty in reaching, it is literally a corner of paradise for the palate! You will make a jump in the Italian 70’s and you will appreciate the amazing quality of the food. Here you will find the classical Italian courses, but please go further and discover the home specialties with a good glass of wine: sgabei with cuts, wild boar with olives overall and the homemade desserts! All dishes are well served and pretty plentiful. Kindness and smiles nowadays look to be something forgotten: on a contrary here you will be welcomed as a member of the family. The whole staff is really helpful and nice, prices are more than fair. Though the distance from main towns this restaurant is always quite crowded, we saw many people even from Milan that is two hours by car, so we always suggest booking.
