McShanag's - The Pie Shop

We ordered two delicious fresh ham and salad rolls, the most amazing apple clam I've ever tasted, and a delicious apple pie. It's a shame we don't live closer, but we always make it a point to visit McShanag's in Castlemaine whenever we're in the area. The food is both cheap and tasty, and we highly recommend it.

McShanag's at Puff Bakery serves the most delicious vegetarian pastries that are a generous size perfect for sharing with the family. They can also be enjoyed cold with a preferred condiment. The apple cakes are also tasty, served with custard or icing. Just be aware that this is a cash only establishment. Luckily, there is a convenient ATM across the street.

With a great range of cakes, scones, pastries and pies, it's no wonder McShanag's is a favorite with locals. For a special treat, try the family-size pasties. They can't be faulted.

We often buy an apple moccasin here, or a lamb and rosemary pie they probably haven’t changed for decades, and prove that old fashioned can be really good. Family sized pies and pasties are great too, and the prices are pretty old school too. Friendly...helpful people too.

Have been to 45 countries, and tasted where I can, pasties from across the planet. McShanags has nailed this recipe. Even the Danes could learn something from their light pastry. Filling was wholesome,and hearty.Boston bun was a great dessert, It was like stepping back into...time.
