Bitropot - Montségur

The food was exceptional, We ate in the Courtyard (our only choice) and enjoyed the rustic surroundings.

We stopped off in Montsegur village after climbing up to the castle. We wandered around the charming streets and discovered this quaint little cafe. We had a coffee and a hot chocolate. The owner was friendly and chatted. There was a lovely old English sheepdog snoozing in the corner. A great find.

This place provided the evening meals part of our demi pension deal in our Cathar Way walk. It's in an old building which has been very tastefully renovated. Agnes, the owner/chef(? /waitress is a real character, very efficient and good company. The food and service are superb a credit to all concerned. So, if you are in the region, eat here you won't be disappointed Strongly recommended.

Agnes is a wonderful and charming host. The outdoor tables are best if weather permits. Menu is limited—just take the special for the day for lunch and book dinner if you want it (fixed menu, price includes good house wine). Did not have a single bad meal here in three days.

Generous portions, reasonable prices and everything locally sourced and freshly made. After climbing to see Montsegur stop here for a bite.
