Gerry's Delicatessen - Montréal

We came for breakfast when we saw a very appealing photo of a lunch smoked meat sandwhich. My fiancé got the $11.99 smoked meat sandwhich with fries (which we made a poutine) and a beer. I overly ambitiously ordered the 10 oz smoked meat sandwhich which was enormous! The sodium content of the meal was through the roof, but very tasty!

This is much like a burger you can get at a corner greasy spoon, but much bigger. The all-dressed nature of it makes it very good. I believed the addition of cheese and bacon would change things, but they were kind of lost in the mix. The coffee was passable, not very strong but 50% better than the coffee offered by most diners. The fruit salad was okay, I always appreciate a little banana and strawberry with breakfast the token melons, I can do without.

This was the best smoked meat sandwich I've ever eaten! I almost always regret ordering a smoked meat sandwich because of how salty they are this sandwich was not salty at all. The meat was delicious and had delicate flavor that made every bite a delight. Even the pickle was the best pickle I've ever eaten. And the crab cakes! Literally melt in your mouth. We almost didn't order them because the smoked meat combo is a lot of food as it is, but trust me, you will not regret trying them. I only wish I didn't live in a different province so I could eat here more often!

My son and husband had the smoked meat and it was not bad, the french fried are frozen which is not great for a delicatessen. I had the lasagna: a lot of tasteless sauce with a lot of overcooked pasta. It is very noisy. Very ordinary and tasteless food.
