Bidra med feedbackMy friend and I had come to Montreal for the week to attend Osheaga, and one night we ran in here 5 minutes before closing...and was seated immediately with a smile. We were starving, and really wanted to get Italian food. Menus arrived immediately, and we got our food within 10 minutes. I have a sensitive taste palette (despite the hunger,) and couldn't stop eating the Spaghetti Sauce a la Viande, while my friend enjoyed her Fettuccini Alfredo. Oh yeah, and the stellar customer service? My friend's phone was knocked into a puddle, and the speaker was broken. The owner, Kiki, came back with a new bag of dry risotto, and just gave it to us for free. The phone worked the next day, and we owed it to Kiki (especially since most supermarkets were closed in the area and we were tourists).Oh, and the ambiance was so sweet. Loved the diner atmosphere and the retro decor. Everyone who worked there was so nice!!This visit was the highlight of our week, both in saving our bellies and the phone. We'll definitely come back as soon as we visit Montreal again!
Came here as a kid. now brought my daughter. I remembered this place fondly, so last night's visit was a crashing disappointment.Menu, was one page. Not a big choice. Did not get water upon arrival. (or even during the meal).Food arrived. Before our drinks, which at this point was asked if we actually wanted bread. When drinks arrived mid way through our meal. Waiter stood at our table re-arranging the drink glasses on his tray before moving on to other tables. Akward. When done eating, we were not offered the desert that was included in my meal.Asked for bill. Before paying, waiter was settling bill from the table behind me. He told those customers they needed to tip him because he pays 8% tax on his sales regardless if someone tips or not. Not something I should be overhearing. He arrives at our table. And in a huff says (in french.) ugggh, I hate having to tell Anglo phones that they have to tip...I am an anglophone!I was insulted by this exchange.
It was an ok visit, the pizza was yummy and the ravioli was ehh ok. I kind of expected better of this place
My partner and I make a point to visit this restaurant each time we are in Montreal. It has a mixture of booths and tables with chairs. Clean, comfortable and welcoming. Service is prompt. The menu has all the old favourites from appetizers, main plates or desserts and any lover of home cooking style Italian will enjoy the food here. It is good for lunch or supper or for a meal anytime of day or evening. It is a popular spot with Montreal locals and I have even seen a line up at supper time. There is a good wine and beer list.Prices are fair and competitive. They do a great take out business so if you are looking for a good meal to take back to your hotel this us a good choice for you. I would recommend this restaurant to singles, couples and families.
We are in Montreal for the weekend, staying near St. Catherine street and all its madness. We ventured into Da Giovanni's and saw a bustling operation and a full house, so we decided to stay, and were pleased we did!We both ordered spaghetti with red sauce, and my dining companion got meatballs, which were huge. The pasta was al dente, the meatballs were well spiced, and the red sauce was quite wonderful. While it is a cafeteria style setting, the meal was more than satisfying
