Our friends had shrimp brochette and salad and her hubby had 1/2 chicken plate , no dessert . The lamb chops were chewy and my husband wasn’t to happy , chewy and full of fat .
I 've been ordering from Parthenon for years, although now that Covid is here I haven 't physically been there in about five years, so I wouldn 't know about any changes in management. All I can say is that whoever is there now is pathetically disorganized. I 'm not a tough customer—I don 't know how many times they 've got my order wrong—inedibly wrong, not just a small item here or there—and I 've just sucked it up. If you call the next day they won 't remember you, but it seems ridiculous to have to call the delivery guy back again the same night because they forgot the tsaziki—again. I have a very simple order: two chicken plates, which are supposed to come with rice and salad. So let 's start with that, and then do these simple things: put no dressing on the salad. Don 't even put it on the side, because I don 't eat the dressing. Then, ditch the drinks. I won 't drink them. Then, give me extra rice, which I will pay for. With me so far? Simple enough? Now I have another simple request: KEEP THE COLD FOOD (ie. the salad) SEPARATE FROM THE HOT FOOD. If they put the salad in the same container as the chicken and rice, it 's inedible the next day. And that 's it. YET—time after time after time after time after time they get it wrong. No tsaziki, but they DO put the dressing. They put the dressing on the salad, making it indelible. They mix the hot with the cold. They forget the rice. One redeeming thing was that they saved your past orders in their computer so you don 't have to go through it all with the new order taker (there is a new order taker EVERY SINGLE TIME you call, so forget about being a treasured customer). Well, finally, last night, I HAD ENOUGH. I talked the order taker, who told me she was new, through the entire order (they 'd changed the computers, so my order wasn 't in there) item by item and I MADE HER REPEAT IT BACK TO ME at least twice. Then I sat back and waited. The delivery was fast, as usual. I took everything out and put it into other containers so I could put it in the refrigerator, and I noticed that the chicken was rather plump. Then, when I went to eat my dinner, at 9 pm, I really thought the chicken looked weird, so I tasted it. You 're right: IT WAS PORK. On top of this—I had no dinner last night—it just happened to be my birthday, although they didn 't know that. I called them at around 9:30 just to tell them about it and I got yelled at by the cook to call back today and talk to the order taker, so I called back today and talked to the order taker, who immediately asked someone else what to do about my order. I was suggesting that maybe next time they could at least make the chicken free, but they wouldn 't hear of it. I should have called them earlier last night—as if they would send over another two chicken plates. Then they suggested that I inspect the order to make sure it was all right—okay, in front of the delivery driver? How 's this for a solution to this rude and EXPENSIVE nonsense: I will leave them this great review and NEVER ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN. Bye-bye, a guaranteed once-a-month order for two chicken plates—you probably didn 't need the business anyway.
This restaurant, despite its Greek name, is actually run by Romanians. The hygiene is poor, with no one wearing masks or gloves and using old oil. Prices fluctuate daily depending on the staff, with suspicious behavior when paying cash. The owners are criticized for their lackluster food-handling practices and the place would likely be shut down if inspected. Formerly a nice establishment, it has since declined under the current ownership.
There is new management but the food is excellent as always. Same great dishes over the past 40 years. Parthenon is a must every time we visit Montreal. The Chicken Brochette Plate was delicious. The Doner Pita excellent. John was a great server.
Parthenon is a well-established Greek restaurant in Montreal, with 30 years of experience, and it's easy to see why it has lasted so long. The waitresses are attentive and the pork souvlaki is considered one of the best in the city. The Yalanji/Dolmades (stuffed wine leaves) are extremely tasty, but it would be nice to see a meat version offered as well. The restaurant is nicely illuminated and has plenty of seating. While the main dishes are a bit pricier compared to other Greek restaurants in the city, there is the option to order individual souvlakis or pitas at a more reasonable price. The gyro meat was mediocre, but overall, Parthenon is worth a visit if you find yourself in the Cote Des Neiges area of Montreal.
