Bidra med feedbackShopping in Montlucon on June we decided to have an unplanned lunch and as parking in the tree lined Avenue Marx Dormay is always easy and free between noon and pm we decided to eat at the Taverne Karlsbrau which have tables...under huge parasols situated by the fountains on the avenue. We were welcomed by a lovely young waitress and seated in the shade. I had a beer and my wife a glass of house Rose whilst perusing the menu. They have a good selection of seafood including oysters as well as steaks, flammakuchen, salads and many other choices including a menu of the day as well as a good selection of wine and beer. I chose a salad nicoise which was ideal on such a hot day and my wife had a flammakuchen with green salad which was delicious, all washed down with a half litre of house Rose, finishing with coffee. Total bill with great service and great location.
This was a quick stop for lunch on a hot day. Nice situation next to the fountain with sun shades. Wait staff were congenital . The food was O.k but could do with more smaller lunch choices.
This is the third time we have used this restaurant and headed there on a very hot evening so we could sit by the fountains. We chose a table and were immediately told we could not sit there as it was for four tables...which could be moved apart). We insisted we sat down and a very grumpy head waiter shouted at a young waitress to move the tables apart. He took ages to come to us for an order and was very slow to serve us all night. He was continually berating the other staff. Our man courses were okay and served by a sweet young waitress, but we had to ask for all condiments, bread etc. The lemon pie dessert was like concrete. I could not get my knife into it. I complained to the waitress and she never said anything just lwft it on the table. When my husband went to pay the bill (they don't bring it to your table) the cashier tried to charge us for the dessert. Had it not been so unbearably hot, we would never have sat down and will not go back there even though we frequently stop over in Montlucon at a hotel nearby. .
We had lunch here in the alfresco area. The service was good and food tasty. The goat cheese salad was very tasty and we both had the pork knuckle which was also very tasty. Would definitely eat here again.
