Bidra med feedbackI had a guide who sent me to the wrong place to wait for our tour, which then began 15 minutes early. Then I was openly spotted that I brought children (6, 9, 11) to the tour. A whole tour group. Despite this guy, this place is fantastic. The gardens, the views, the architectural museum. We spent 4 hours learning here and enthusiastic about the meaning and history of her all. My wife and I could have spent more time there, but children. We've made the cheapest tour that's just the ground floor. If only we were, we would have done the whole thing to see the dome. I recommend getting there very early and doing the architectural museum at the foot of the hill before going up. Spend 45 minutes to read and learn everything Jefferson did before you put your eyes on the building.
One of the best tours I've ever made. Amazing experience from the trip to the tour. We bought the Behind the Scenes Tour that brings you to the house and the Rotunda – it is worth the investment! You go through the story. We saw the actual books Jefferson, his bed, his personal tools and so much more. The guides are sensitive, thoughtful and friendly. Going through history has no substitute! Very recommended for those who visit Charlottesville!
It was a great tour. Our leader Don was amazing. Every encounter with the workers was nice except that the lady drives the shuttle and the lady checks the tickets to get into the bus. It's a must to see if you're in Charlottesville. The house had incredible views of the blue mountain ridges and nearby fields. I recommend a guided tour because they share interesting stories of the family and objects in the house.
This is a great place to visit! You can spend most of the day here when you visit the house and go through all the buildings and take part in some of the walking tours. The gift shop is first class and have recreation of furniture (consuming) and simple items such as pencil and children's toys. They spoke very well about Jefferson possessing slaves and his children he had with Sally Hemings. Overall, I felt that they did a great task of interpreting history without leaving the good and the bad.
Great place to visit and get a taste of our founding father. A very complex personality. And the actor playing Jefferson was incredibly knowledgeable. All in all a memorable experience. Although hard to understand why he did not free all of his slaves even though he believed all men are created equal.
