Fattoria San Carlo - MONTEMURLO

We stayed at fattoria San Carlo from 23rd to 25th July 2017 . This is a big old family house with plenty of potential but desperate for updating and repair. The family who own San Carlo are very courteous but speak little English . Everything smell as of being old , the bedrooms are dark and unwelcoming and we were all sure we were sleeping in the families personal rooms as all their personal possessions were still in the rooms. My cousins bed had two mattresses on so was very high , not ideal for a 70 and 80 year old couple ! The linen on all the beds were old and the towels old and hard. Our bathroom had two lights above the sink that were burning hot, very dangerous!!. Breakfast was one croissant each with a packet of French toasts and coffee. Internet access was only possible if you sat in a dark corridor which smelt of smoke and stale tobacco. Generally the whole place was dirty and needs cleaning. When we came to pay the bill the card reader would not work and surprisingly we left without paying , when we got home the owner phoned us with bank details and the money transferred. I would not recommend anyone to stay at fattoria San Carlo the proprietors were lovely and thus house could be beautifull with a massive injection of money to bring it up to a reasonable standard . Finally there is no air conditioning , the rooms were very hot and oppressive, but may I say the China we were served our coffee I was beautifull. The biggest surprise was a swimming pool , dirty and not usable at the rear of the house , all the pool furniture was broken and old but this could be made into a real feature . This place is very sad and I could not wait to leave.
