Bidra med feedbackThe food was okay. The service was not. The waiter was an older guy with an older attitude. If you can roll with it, it is okay not great.
I was really impressed with this little talked about steakhouse. It 's off the beaten path for sure, in a residential neighbourhood where there are no tourists. I guess this is one of the mythical authentic restaurants that people always say they want to go to. The food is fantastic, We shared the steak for 2 (perfectly grilled) which came with potatoes and a whole gilled onion. The habanero salsa (and well as two others accompanying) also excellent. Grilled chorizo starter was fine. The service is outstanding and the wine list is extensive considering it is a tiny restaurant. I felt the lighting was a little harsh but this is a minor complaint. Turning down the lights could have made this feel more romantic I think. See if you can get the table in the corner by the window for privacy. People waiting for a table stand in the aisles. The customers are completely Mexican, I didn 't hear a word of English, I 'm fairly certain none of the staff speaks English. This may or may not be a problem for gringos but it might be worth it since the quality is so high and the prices are half of what you would pay in other areas of the city. Also, contrary to what people think, going to places here in Mérida that cater to residents doesn 't necessarily mean that tourists will be overcharged.
We have been 4 times when we needed our fix for a charred grilled beef. Each time it has been charred perfectly, cooked to perfection, tender, and very flavorful. Cana de Lomo is what we have chosen each time. A very good steak option, actually the only one we need. Highly recommend.
La Rueda is tucked away in an off-the-beat area of Merida, not far from Centro. It's main dining room is decorated with simple seating, a wall of windows to their outdoor area (pizza horno and a great wine selection).and an array of kitchen tools and gadgets. Your inner Argentinian will convince you to go for the steak. The meat menu is great, for somenoe who can't eat meat, this isn't a good place. I ordered a salad, and paid a premium price for it, but the quality didn't match the price. Basically, if you love a great piece of beef, cooked to perfection, make La Rueda one of your go-to places. The outdoor area also has a nicely appointed children's play area that allows kids to play in a safe environment where parents can see them, but still enjoy an adult dinner only a few steps away. Check it out!
