Castel Fragsburg - MERANO

We'd already eaten twice in the Orangerie restaurant and the food, wine and service were all excellent. For our final night we ate it the Gourmet Restaurant and whilst the previous meals had been excellent, this meal was even better. Service as it had been everywhere during our stay was excellent, with the sommelier and two waiters we encountered most regularly standing out as excellent. The food was extremely well cooked, beautifully presented, and delicious. The wine pairings were also exceptional. To cap off a fabulous meal the chefs had prepared a small birthday cake for my wife which was discreetly presented and much appreciated. It has been quite a few years since we last visited but as far as I can remember the quality of the food remains as good as it was, maybe even better. Well worth it, for a special occasion.

Castle Fragsburg is a 5+ star hotel with commanding views of Merano and the mountains. It is a bit of a challenge to find, but worth the effort. We enjoyed both the food and the fabulous views here. We were able to find vegetarian and fish choices for lunch that were wonderful, and the little after meal sweets are not to be missed. They are served on a dish that looks like the hotel.

We have visited this restaurant two times during our three days stay in Marano. Castel Fragsburg is a wonderful place with an unbeleavable view on the whole Merono. All the staff was excelent with their services.Romantic restaurant have also excelent offer of wines. The degustation menu gived us unforgetable gourmet experience.

We know Castel Fragsburg since 2012 and loved the place for the excellent culinary quality delivery by Luis Haller and his team. Since Luis Haller has left the Fragsburg in early 2016, the Fragsburg has changed its chef almost yearly and the culinary quality has decreased continuously despite steeply increased prices! The service is competent and nice but rather formal. Since 2019 the restaurant only welcomes hotel guests for lunch time but excludes external guests. The restaurant was mostly rather unfriendly and unwelcoming to dog owners and dogs and imposes strange restrictions (e.g., no dogs on terrace). Unfortunately, overall a very disappointing development we would expect significant improvement to food quality, prices and guest friendliness before we would visit Castel Frgasburg again. The view from the terrace is lovely, though.
