At the edge of town, away from the busy restaurant area, this restaurant offers great ambience and tranquility. The dining terrace has pleasant views and is breezy in the heat of summer. There is quietly playing folk music both Bulgarian and Turkish. A very nice setting all in all. Our meal was leisurely-almost 2 hours and we were not rushed. . Service (probably by the owner) was attentive and warm. The appetizers we had (walnut and warm cheese, and thickened yogurt with cucumbers) were delicious. The garlicky pita bread is home made. An expresso accompanied with a Bulgarian brandy (cognac) for me and my wife had a peanut butter caramel ice cream -these were one of the highlights of our dinner. As far as our entrees.. a very different story. The entrees we chose did not approach the 4.5 star reviews which we had read beforehand. My wife had venison (the waiter who served it said here is your Bambi , which we found amusing, although he now swears that they don 't serve venison) in a claypot, unaccompanied by vegs or rice. It was very lean without a sauce for 25LV.v It was exceedingly dry tasting like old stew meat re-heated too many times. It was a complete disaster. I ate part of her entrée and agreed that it was a poorly made and probably shouldn 't have been on the menu at that or any other price. A substantial portion was fed to the young cat near our table.I had a ragout of lamb, which was moist and flavorful although greasier and with several large hunks of fat and membranes. I have cooked lamb a hundred times, and on my worse day would have been ashamed to serve this . It was a good sized portion but at 35LV, overpriced, and failed all expectations. The accompanying rice side dish tasted old and was flavorless. We left with decidedly mixed feelings about our meal. Perhaps different entrée choices would have increased our enjoyment, but that is mere conjecture. Our total bill was 92 LV. It was by far our most expensive and disappointing meal we ate in the 11 weeks we have been traveling in Bulgaria. Owner becomes quite snotty if you leave a bad review. There are more gracious ways to deal with dissatisfied customers, besides a personal attack.
Have tried many different vegetarian dishes. Very delicious. Everything done. The red wine (Mavrud) was also very delicious.
Simply delicious, tasty, abundant, original dishes, local ingredients, traditional decoration. Superb!
