Sempre Pizza & Calzone - Melbourne

Walked past Sempre as no one was in at 5.30pm on a Saturday. Thankfully we didn't like the look of anywhere near by and returned to Sempre with more and more people following us in. Lovely pizzas cooked perfectly. Great Italian beer, Menabrea. Will return soon hopefully.

I was excited for a delicious pizza, but I was disappointed with my experience. It was almost closing time on a Saturday night at 9pm, and the pizza was not up to par. Contrary to what a reviewer had mentioned, the pizza was not wood-fired. The base was thin in the middle like a biscuit, which is typical for a wood-fired pizza, but it was nothing like a traditional Roman pizza. The manager did not seem concerned when we left our pizza half-eaten, and he didn't show much interest when we discussed how Roman pizza should have a thick base rather than a biscuit-like one. I even pointed out the thin base on the pizza he had just served us. Having enjoyed pizza in Rome with a focaccia-like base, I found this experience to be very disappointing. It's possible that the dough was overworked from a long day.

A group of 9, including 4 children, we arrived at the restaurant early for dinner before a stage show. There were perfect menu options for both kids and adults, and the staff was friendly, making our time there relaxed and low-stress. Thank you!

A really tasty pizza in a great city location with an exceptional wine list for those not hung up on what’s on trend. Reasonable price and a really friendly and welcoming couple running it. The pizza is the traditional square shape, ideal size for one, and the dough is light and crispy. There is a small specials board if you don’t fancy a pizza.
