They serve good coffee and offer some food options, but the space is limited. A convenient shared table is situated in the lobby near the front doors of the building, making it easily accessible for those needing to meet for business discussions at the Public Record Office or work and research in the area.
The restaurant could be more comfortable with improvements in their public records office. The food I tried was okay, nothing outstanding. The egg and bacon roll I ordered was overcooked to the point of being unrecognizable. I wasn't given the option to have it reheated in a toaster. The vegetable pizza was also overtoasted. The coffee was decent.
Melbourne is known for having the best coffee in Australia. Cafe 99 is a hidden gem, but the food and atmosphere are amazing. The coffee here is top-notch and definitely worth the trip to the Public Record Office of Victoria to experience the best cup in town.
This is a small but reliable café in the lobby of the Public Record Office at 99 Shiel Street, North Melbourne. It has good coffee and some food, but there's only a small space. One of its sharing tables is right in the lobby, at the front doors of the building, you can't miss it. Handy if you need to meet someone for a business discussion at PROV, or are doing work or research here.
Convenient if you are doing some work at the Oublic Records Office. The food I had was average, and not they great. The egg and bacon roll I had one day was toasted beyond recognition. I was not even asked whether I wanted them reheated in a toasting machine. The veggie pizza was inflicted with then same toasting. Coffee was not bad.
