Bidra med feedbackWhat a surprise. Not that I did not know Eastern European cuisine, but that is right there is South Melbourne! Poland is renowned for its tasty, hearty cuisine and this place is a testament to that. The interior is very cosy, home like. The pace has this rustic feel to it. There are a plenty of country paintings on the walls, quiet, non-intrusive European music. They have a fantastic Polish beers and vodkas. The owner will keenly guide you through how to drink them (and, believe me, you have to try freezed vodka, you will be amazed, I promise you). They offer genuine Polish home made food, that is as authentic as you can get outside of Poland and is absolutely amazing. They serve a great selection of soups, especially for cold winter days and evenings to warm you up. They also make their own pickles ranging from tomatoes, to beetroot, to carrots, to grapes. Make sure you try cucumbers in brine. Western style recepies use vinegar, whereas in Eastern Europe salted water is more common and that makes them yummier, especially with vodka. The owner is very friendly, happy for a small chat and will explain all the intricacies of dishes and drinks. Tipsy Village is a highly recommended place, indeed.
Stumbled upon this while looking for an easy lunch. What a find. Authentic, hearty food served by great staff topped by interesting conversations with the owner. Consuming bigos and bock, I easilt could imagine being in a tavern during medieval times. My wife had the pierogi and raved about the smoothness and taste of these dumplings. Definitely give it a try and hopefully you have a great experience like outs.
After visiting South Melbourne market our family with friends had lunch in this small Polish cafe. We ordered herring, shakshuka, pirogi polish dumplings with different feelings beetroot, salmon, chicken etc. all dishes were delicious. Service was also very good.
The restaurant was not overcrowded, there were enough seats for four of us. The ambience was enjoyable and fitting for the brunch. We were impressed by the food selection for breakfast, including some specialty meals such as pirogie, finding something to your taste should not be a problem. The prices were 20-25% higher than what we'd pay in a similar restaurant, so we were hoping that the quality of the food and the size of the portions would match the price. The food quality, however, was significantly below average, probably on par with someone who would hurriedly cook a breakfast
The three of us arrived for lunch. They cleaned our table and coffees and the hot chocolate came put quickly. The extra chocolate was quickly popped into the mug and it was drunk very quickly. Delicious. For lunch I had the Persian omelette, the flavours were amazing. The other two dishes were the egg and bacon muffin, the yellow yolk was striking against the muffin, the cheese was melted to perfection. Bacon was cut into strips which finished the meal off perfectly. The last dish was the brekky melt. It came on 3 slices of toast and everything in this dish complemented the other ingredients very well. To top it off the customer service was just amazing. Thanks we will be back.
