Bidra med feedbackI haven't been to the food court at First Markham Place in a while. This time, I was looking for a budget-friendly and delicious meal to tide me over until I got home. Despite the name, there doesn't seem to be any connection to Chef Martin Yan. I found a special for soup and noodles for only $5.99, which sounded perfect for what I needed. However, it turned out to be a large portion of food! The box was filled to the brim with noodles, and the hot and sour soup was tasty as well. Overall, not bad at all, especially for the price!
I was in Markham and discovered this food court. There were many options available, with some stalls having long lines and others not so much. I decided to try Yan's Cook and ordered the Singapore Vermicelli, Cantonese Chow Mein, and Beef and Broccoli. The food was surprisingly good for a food court. It was freshly cooked to order, so I had to wait about 10 minutes. The quality was much better than some of the fast food places in Toronto. The portions were generous, so I had to take some home. I would definitely return to try out some of the other stalls in the food court.
I was extremely disappointed to find a Chinese restaurant cutting corners by using a generic beef brisket sauce on their dishes, similar to how Indian restaurants use a generic curry sauce. The "Chui Hau braised beef brisket Lo Mien" I ordered was unappetizing and had a terrible taste. The beef brisket was boiled, tasteless, undercooked, and tough, covered in a starchy soy sauce gravy. It was a poor attempt at an iconic Cantonese dish. I can only imagine the reaction if a French restaurant tried to pass off a similar shortcut with Boeuf Bourguignon. I wonder if the customer who ordered a "Curry Beef Brisket on rice" after me will notice they received the same generic beef brisket with a different sauce.
I used to go to this food court restaurant, since they failed the health inspection I had become sketpical, but gave it a shot last night. Biggggg mistake, my girlfriend and I bought some shu mai as snacks, and it was the only food we ate in common, this morning she was vomiting, and I'm stuck in the washroom feeling terrible with a slight fever. Never again will I give this place my business, if they don't care about their customers, then you don't deserve any more chances. Terrible, do not come here unless you want to feel awful the next few days.
Been coming here for take out and events orders over the years, but lately the prices have gone up noticeably, but the quality has gone up too, especially after the food inspection closure
