Bidra med feedbackThe pastries are no longer flaky and crispy. Not that fresh anymore. I think they changed their recipe because everything tasted buttery before but not anymore. Maybe they use less butter and substitute with something else.
Since this review is for bake code I will give a high high rating (chatime on the other hand is a totally different star rating) The croissants are some of the best I have had, not the best of the best, but it's very good, nice and crispy on the outside, a bit soft on the inside, nice fillings. Lots of flavours to choose from. The buns are pretty special and good, but pass on the cookies! I also like the cakes they have, and especially since they open late (11:00pm) perfect when you are craving for something sweet/cake at night. The tofu cheesecake and Millie cakes are really good!
Chatime is one of my favourite boba chain because of their [Roasted Grassjelly Milk Tea] so I really wanted to like Bake Code. The first thing I noticed with Bake Code was the price, most of their buns are $4+ and if you're familiar with Markham Richmond Hill, you would know there's no shortage of Chinese bun shops around. You can get delicious buns for around $2. My first time question to myself was, why are Bake Codes buns so expensive? Is it worth the price? Over the years I have tried the following buns/pastries (see below) and I have to say, the buns are not worth the price. I decided to give them 3/5 because they are good but there are better options for less elsewhere. [Red Velvet Cookie] $3.50 for a small cookie that tasted like an average cookie. Very disappointing. [Pb J Croissants] $4.5 these are more decently priced as they are bigger than Hazukido, but not as buttery and flakey. I find Bake Codes to be a bit more crispy and not as flakey. [Vietnamese Coffee Croissants] $4.5 this one was really good, as I really enjoyed the light Vietnamese coffee flavour, like I mentioned above it's not as buttery and flakey though. [Sausage Bun] For $4 something this was really not worth as it wasn't anything outstanding. Especially since most places offer sausage buns for only $2 or so. [Red Velvet Cake Japanese Strawberry Cake] another average cake slice, nothing special that made them stand out.
Love the salted egg croissant and the ufo coffee bun. But the Markham location doesn't have a lot of the special items until later in the afternoon.
I normally love Bake Code buns but today I ordered an Oreo Cream bun through this location on UberEats and it had literal pieces of WOOD in the bun. I was sharing the bun with a friend and she thankfully didn't swallow any. I don't understand how something like this could be overlooked so carelessly especially when it could cause dangerous choking hazard or damage the esophagus when swallowing. Very disappointing... To other customers who often order here, I'd suggest going to a different bakery or location. God forbid this have been fed to a child..
