Esplanada Ancora - Marinha Grande

Had two lunches here and thoroughly enjoyed both visits. Had beer and burgers for two for about €15 and also a seafood skewers and wine which was just over €30 for two ..

Nice decor and ambience, good variety of food, fast service. Food was adequate. Good for a drink with friends, right on the beach.

We 've been frequenting Ancora for over a decade. The food is nothing to write home about but it 's an okay watering hole to hang out with friends over drinks. Often, we order a jar of sangria, which is a tad sweet. To cut the sweetness, we always ask them to lace it with a glass of wine. During our last visit a couple of weeks ago, shortly after we ordered a sizeable jar of sangria, the manager/owner, shimmied over in our direction and hovering over our table, embarked on tirade that lasted 30 minutes (I kid you not). I am unable to recount the substance of his whining as, despite being fluent in English, he refused to speak it, instead, proceeding to inform me that I should learn to speak Portuguese (he obviously did not study customer relations at University). Even the abused Portuguese speakers on our table who had the displeasure of understanding what he droned on about were unable to figure out why, after months of serving us sangria with a twist, all of a sudden he had a problem with it. I mean, you either serve it as requested by the client or simply ask your client to order a glass of wine separately and fortify the fruity elixir themselves. What is there to discuss?? So, Ancora is one place we will engrave on our do not visit list. Avoid the place completely if you do not speak Portuguese. If you do speak Portuguese, avoid special requests or prepare to be abused!

Ótimo valor ao dinheiro. O serviço é de primeira qualidade, grande variedade de cervejas, o especial do dia é de 7,50€…. Com vista para o mar!
