Bidra med feedbackI called in advance to order takeout, and was told it would be ready in 40 minutes. When I arrived after 45 minutes, I was told my food wasn't ready yet. I had ordered for three people, which wasn't a large order - 3 appetizers, 3 main dishes, and rice. After waiting for 20 more minutes, I was still waiting for my food. The restaurant wasn't very busy, but the kitchen seemed overwhelmed. I could see into the kitchen from where I was waiting, and I could hear what sounded like tense conversations. At 1 hour and 30 minutes since placing my order, I was growing impatient. I asked for a refund and planned to go elsewhere for my meal, but was told my food was just coming out of the kitchen. Finally, after 1 hour and 55 minutes since my initial call, I was given my order in a bag - only to find out that they were out of 4 of the 7 items I had ordered.
We placed our order through Menulog online and had it delivered to us by a family member. The order took 2 hours and required 2 phone calls to check on its status. We suspect that the restaurant lied to us about the order being on its way when it had not even left. The food itself was lacking in flavor and tasted bland. We are familiar with Ethiopian cuisine, but this meal seemed to be simplified and lacked the authentic taste we were expecting. The long wait time only added to our disappointment with the overall dining experience.
We have been regular customers at this restaurant for years, but recently we have noticed a decline in the quality of service. When we arrived, there was no one at the front of the house and we had to search for someone in the back. Eventually, someone asked us about our reservation for 2 people, but then questioned if it was actually for 4 people. There were no menus on our table and we had to grab them ourselves from a central location. We waited a long time for our food, with other customers who ordered takeout receiving their orders before us. When our food finally arrived after about an hour, it was delicious and satisfying as always. One thing to note is that while it is BYOB, the nearby supermarket where you could buy wine has closed down and been replaced by a hair salon. Overall, the restaurant's service has deteriorated, especially during our recent visit in the early evening.
Ethiopia Down Under is a lovely little restaurant and takeaway tucked into pearce shops. The service is always friendly enough and food is good, with a good range of meat and vegetarian options.
I ordered take away, was advised 40 mins, an hour and 20 minutes later its still not ready and then they advise me 4 of the 6 things I ordered they had run out of.
