Pok-e-joe's Hickory Smoked Meats

Nice small hometown bbq place in a shopping strip in Boonsboro. Always great service, great choices of meats, sides, platters, sandwiches. Prices not inflated, portions just right for even BIG BOYS! Eat in peace, no drama around you.

We decided to come here on a Friday night. It was crowded with a few seats open at the bar and a table right at the entrance. Keep in mind: this isn't a big establishment at all! Thankfully, a couple left and we moved to their table bc sitting at the entrance was cold. Real cold and would have made this experience unpleasant. Once we changed tables , we reviewed the menu and ordered our drinks. The server was prompt and helpful. I ordered a craft beer. It was cool. For our meal, I ordered the brisket plate. (Included 2 sides). The brisket was just ok. I've definitely had better but it wasn't horrible. The sides were amazing! Collard greens had a nice flavor and the coleslaw was creamy and crunchy... so good! They also have delicious bbq sauces. My sis and niece had the pork sandwiches. They loved them. Fries and fried okra were the sides. My sis said the fried okra needed to be fried harder. For our first time here , we enjoyed the food and service we received. We plan to return for sure!

Edit: this review is for the vinton location. Haven't had Lynchburg and likely won't after this experience. Is the food here just reheated and not made on site? Curious because I didn't see any signs of a smoker or indoor smoker or anything to indicate bbq was being made on site. Some of the driest bbq I've ever had.

They need more seating, but that's probably due to their food being so good that everyone wants to eat there. It's a great casual dining spot with nice people, fast service (despite the crowd), and good food.
