Bidra med feedbackOne of the best Ethiopian Restaurant, since 1985 in Little Ethiopia, Los Angeles, CA. I highly recommend this restaurant. Service is 10/10. Food is delicious
All of the restaurants in little Ethiopia are basically indistinguishable from each other besides Meals by Genet and the vegan place. Service was acceptable but not over the top. the atmosphere was crowded, but hip and the food was as you'd expect. Bottom line, if you come to little Ethiopia, go to Meals by Genet. On the likely chance you can't get in, then go here or any other restaurant in this street, and you probably won't notice a difference. I know that doesn't make this restaurant seem great, but it shouldn't. This place is solid, and so are all of the others. I haven't had a bad meal on Fairfax.
The food was good and interesting. I’m giving 3 stars for the service but honestly it was below average. It took a very long time for my food to arrive and no one checked on us until I would personally call them and ask for something I needed.
This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. I read up on their reviews and checked out food photos because I had no prior knowledge or experience. Although I did watch the helpful video posted on Yelp how to eat with your hands, the server kindly brought out her own plate to show me herself. She made sure that I understood after I told her it was my first time. I got the super Messob exclusive for two people to share dinner with my eating partner. It was definitely too much food. I packed a full heavy to go box to take home. It's basically a combination of several menu items and comes with injera. There were some items that I liked more than others, so now I know what I would order and what not to order. I also tried the appetizer sambussa, which reminded of samosas. They're fried and tasted really good but messy. The inside filling would fall out when I took bites. It came with a spicy red sauce, which also tasted good with the main entree. Parking free street parking after 8 PM on Whitworth. There are some metered spots along Fairfax. Across from Messob there is a crosswalk, which is helpful for crossing the street without a stoplight. Bathroom is in the back, and there is one hand washing station outside of the two bathrooms. Definitely wash your hands before eating. Next time I would come for lunch to try the coffee!
I’ve been coming here for a few years. The food is great and the atmosphere is different and I always enjoy it. They do take a bit to bring out the food so I try not to come in when I’m very hungry. It’s family restaurant and I’m happy to support it. Recommend.
