Some of the BEST Mexican food, good drinks, and great prices! Their hot sauces are delicious. It’s also a comfortable environment. Don’t pay $20 for 2 bland tacos in Atlanta. This place is awesome! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Let 's start off with the outside and work our way in. Shall we? The parking lot is very small. I think they were only (maybe 10 parking spaces. Although, I believe this restaurant could easily service 50 60 people at one time with both indoor and outdoor seating combined. The outside seating would be great for larger parties, and they have umbrellas set up for particularly sunny days. They use a string of Edison lights for outdoor lighting, so it 's somewhat festive and somewhat reserved. The interior 's decorations were both artsy and at the same time, felt like an upscale version of a hole in the wall, Mexican place. It was nicer than I expected. The service was great. They greeted us as we walked in and as we left they said thank you. There was a girl working the register and bar, and there was a girl doing table service. Personally, I was ready when I walked in, but I retrieved a couple of menus to take a pictures and to show my dad what they had to offer. We sat by the windows in the corner of the restaurant to the left of the door when you walk in. There was a big TV up on the wall, but all I ever noticed playing on it were commercials. The tables are intentionally stripped dark green on white paint for a somewhat distressed look, and rectangular wood topped with lacquer on them to make them easier to clean. The seating is fairly standard tall metal chairs with thin cushions at the bar (about 6 seats and wooden chairs without cushions as well as two room length wooden benches lining the left and right walls. The walls are 2 tone with canary yellow for the wall at the door and the wall behind the bar as well as grey for the 2 side walls. There are accent items around the restaurant wall decor, shelf adornments, colored pillows, red curtains, and even the backs of the bar chairs are painted yellow. Now, let 's get to the food. We ordered 2 of the 3 Birria tacos plates for $12.95/ea and one barbacoa taco to share. Now, I need to disclaim here: I don 't actually like corn tortillas like at all. I think the taste and feel like wet cardboard. However, I was very impressed by the texture and flavor presented with the Birria tacos corn tortillas. They were dipped in the Birria sauce and fried to perfection, bringing out that just barely between chips and tortillas texture that allows me to crunch into a taco but not cut the roof of my mouth. The Birria sauce they provided had onion and cilantro in it and it was delectable. Honestly, the tacos didn 't even need the dipping sauce, but it was nice to have the choice: To dip, or not to dip? That is the question! They could achieve an extra level of flavor with a squeeze of fresh lime juice, avocado sauce, Serrano sauce, or salsa (my favorite was the creamy avocado sauce all of which were provided at the start of the meal save for the lime quarters that came the tacos. We also shared a queso dip and chips as well as a barbacoa taco. The chips were fresh, crunchy, and not overly salty. The queso had bits of peppers in it, but I couldn 't really discern anything special about it. It was pretty standard queso. Finally, the barbacoa taco we shared... I didn 't get a chance to take a photo of it because my dad initially thought that it was just a plate of cilantro and onions to add to the Birria tacos. He started using his spoon to remove the toppings and added them to his Birria taco. He noticed that there was meat under the cilantro and onions, but he thought that must be extra meat for the (already super meaty Birria tacos and he began using his spoon to remove that and added it to his Birria taco as well. After I noticed what he was doing, I reached over and tried to explain as I ripped the barbacoa taco into 2 parts and gave him the half he 'd lessened . He was like Oh, you ordered another taco? I said, Yeah. Just try it as is. This is the barbacoa taco. He then tried the taco and ended up dipping it into the Birria sauce dip. He said it needed a sauce and he liked the Birria tacos better. Now, me personally, I actually had a stuffed barbacoa taco, with all the meat and toppings on my side still in there. While I still am not a fan of the corn tortilla, the barbacoa 's natural umami and fattiness killed it. There was a lot going on! The crispy juicy white onion added a soft spiciness, while the mound of cilantro added a freshness, the lime (which I used for the final bite added a nice sour twang, and the barbacoa beef was super tender and fatty and juicy and utterly delicious ... Ahem! Let 's just say, I 'm very surprised that they didn 't have a plate option for the barbacoa tacos. I would much rather have 3 of those and a Birria taco on the side. Yo. YO! This place has some really great tacos! I didn 't even notice (outside of seeing them the corn tortillas! What are you doing with your life if you 're not getting out there?! Try Frida 's Taqueria! They really won 't let you down. Enjoy!
