Bidra med feedbackCoscio di Badia is a lovely family-run agriturismo on land that has been in the proprietor’s family for more than 300 years. The property is very well-kept with pretty plantings and has a spectacular view of Mt Etna on clear days. If you are visiting Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, I highly recommend staying here as a beautiful contrast to the gritty bustle of Agrigento. You can take walks along the country roads, and if you come with kids, the farm has a playground along with animals like peacocks and geese that children will love. There are beautiful views of the nearby mountaintop towns like Naro. I can’t emphasize enough how friendly and generous all family members were—we met mom, two daughters and one “ragazzo”. Our room was very comfortable with a view of Etna, and in a private location away from the main building and restaurant. The food was delicious, home cooked and authentically Sicilian. At our two dinners, we had a tasty timballo, a pasta with cauliflower, salsicce, and lamb along with very hearty appetizer plates. One of the plates included three different delicious cheeses (along with other items) including a super-fresh ricotta, a melted pecorino and Piacentinu Ennese (really really tasty and a first for me). Breakfasts had something for every taste: muesli (granola), yogurt, juice, fruit, biscotto, bread, cheese, ham and a homemade ricotta and strawberry cake one morning. Stay more than one night and you will find yourself completely relaxed by the end of your stay. Oh, and try Coscio di Badia’s own red wine—delicious.
We had a 4-course menu on ferragosto at Cosco di Badia. There were aproxx. 120 people celebrating ferragosto at cosco di Badia on ferragusto this year. Everyone was allowed to enjoy the pool during the day, which looked really nice (but crowded). The food unfortunately was by far the worst experience we had in Sicily. We started with a plate of salami, cheese and some other typical Sicilian food, which was eatable, but not tasty. The second course was noodles and risotto which tastet like some instant-noodles. The main course was pure impudence. The worst grilled sausage, pork belly and some kind of bones I have ever eaten/tried to eat. I Conclusion: awful, way to expensive meal and a pure waste of time. Service was ok.
We were a group of 10 including one who was gluten free and well taken care of. The starters included spiralized zucchini and individual pastry less quiches which would have looked at home on a Hemsly and Hemsley menu (the proprietress says she has been making them like that for years! . Pasta mixed with chillies and tomatoes came with a delicious risotto all a bit much for me but they weren't insulted when we left food on our plates. Seemed a pity though. Given the 30C+ warmth but a risk of rain, we were sat inside with just a little aircon now and then to cool off the room pleasantly. Service was friendly, value outstanding and everyone in our group very happy.
We have been here many times, and hope to come again next year with more family.. First time we visited, we told Antonella we were researching family history... She helped us by sharing her family history. From the moment we met Antonella and Roberto, we have felt welcome! They are gracious people, and very hard working. The rooms are perfect! They match the surrounding area, and feel unique! Then there is the food! It comes straight from the heart, you can tell! The grounds are enjoyable and ever changing. If I could , I would come back more often, and stay longer! Our hearts feel welcome here!
