Bidra med feedbackWhile driving on the highway, I was suddenly hit with a classic migraine. Fortunately, we parked our car and found the Jamyang cafe across the street. Their tea, toasties, and friendly service helped us recover before hitting the road again.
I stopped by the cafe on a hot day, originally just for a cup of tea. However, after seeing some vegan options on the vegetarian menu, I decided to try a sandwich. Unfortunately, they were out of stock of the vegan options. Nonetheless, I found the menu to be appealing. I enjoyed my green tea while sitting in the lovely courtyard. The cafe is connected to The Jam Yang Buddhist Centre, which is located in the historic Old Courthouse building. It is believed that The Dalai Lama may have visited this location during the same time he visited the Tibetan Peace Garden next to The Imperial War Museum. The courtyard used to be the exercise yard for the Courthouse and is now filled with flowers, shrubs, and a reclining Buddha statue. With colored prayer flags fluttering above, it is a peaceful oasis away from the bustling Kennington Lane and Elephant Castle roundabout nearby. There is also a small indoor seating area, but the courtyard is the main attraction. The man working behind the counter provided very pleasant service.
I meet up with my friends once a month and we often go to this cafe. The food is vegan, but the salads are wonderful and plentiful, and the coffee and herbal tea are excellent. You must also try the delicious cakes and the staff is fantastic, very helpful.
So disappointed as we made a special trip to this cafe on a friend's recommendation only to find that they were closed for the whole of August. It looked so lovely in the garden too. Will have to go again. Such a shame.
We went there recently and found the place to be a quiet oasis in this buzzling town. Not a place to travel across town for but if you are in the neighborhood and need to chill this is a good place.
