Bidra med feedbackI did not dine in but bought lamb biryani as take away. Though it wasn't freshly cooked, the flavors were nice. I'd definitely go there again and try the other dishes ! :
One of the best places in Sydney to lap up Hyderabadi Biriyani, Tehri or anything that remotely identifies itself with Mughlai cuisine. Since I am a Biriyani fanatic I went with the obvious with Lamb Nahari Naan as accompaniments.
A friend recommended this restaurant to me, and initially I was hesitant. However, after trying the biryani, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. The lesson here is not to judge a place too quickly.
Entering Biryani House with my friend Sadia Kashif, who is originally from Pakistan, provided me with a unique perspective on this restaurant. Despite its simple decor on busy Haldon Street in Lakemba, the combination of authentic Pakistani cuisine and pictures of Lahore made the experience special for Sadia. She mentioned feeling at home as she pointed out the city landmarks depicted in large photographs on the restaurant's walls. While enjoying our Chicken Biryani ($12), I shared with Sadia that my great-uncle had a connection to the British Raj as a telegraphist, and even wrote a novella about the time leading up to the partition of India. She was interested to hear about his perspective on the event, highlighting the differing views held by Pakistani people due to it resulting in their country's independence in 1947. The dish we were enjoying, Hyderabadi biryani, is a colorful and fragrant long-grained basmati rice dish with origins in India.
The food at this restaurant is fantastic. The seating may not be the most comfortable, but it is not the worst either. However, the quality of the food, which is delicious and tailored to Pakistani tastes, is what truly matters to me.
