Kanpai Sushi - Ladera Ranch

My family has been a BIG fan of Kanpai since it opened. HOWEVER, something has DEFINITELY changed over there in the last year or so. The last two times we ordered, everything was lacking BIG TIME! Sushi rice had zero flavor, like they forgot to season it. Several pieces of plastic wrap in the sushi. Wasabi looks so fake. I've never seen it such a color before, anywhere. We all had something different (five people) and no one was happy with their order. Sadly, that will be the last time for sure. We gave them another chance, hoping the time before was just a fluke. Sorry to see this happen to Kanpai.

Wow! Been coming here for over 17 years on and off. HUGE DECLINE!!! Sushi chef rude and distant. Waiter absent. Looks like a take out place. What's going on!!! Saturday night and NO ONE HERE . Phone rings constantly. Unfriendly and won't be back. I asked if the owner was here. They said getting a NEW OWNER !!!! Yikes!!! No menus. QRcodes . Place smells like Lysol and dirty socks. Cage fighting on the tv directly in-front of sushi bar. Stay clear . So sad. This place use to be affordable and awesome. Ice tea is tasty !!

This is a pace that you are going to like or dislike because of the rolls, not the sushi. There is a limited selection of sushi, and it doesn't go beyond the standard. I did try the yellowtail, and it wasn't something I would order again. The rolls on the other hand, can be quite good. The vast majority are riffs on either a spicy tuna roll or a California roll. I am not too fond of the latter, but spicy tuna is up my alley. I tried the Fire roll, and it was just OK, but later we had the Tataki roll, and it was very good. The girls, on the other hand, love the rolls, hence the 20 minute or so drive to come here for dinner. I am sure we will come back, and maybe I can find the rolls that I like (and skip the sushi itself) that will elevate it a bot.

Great menu Great Sashimi sushi. My family took me out for my birthday. They suggested Kanpai and to my surprise it was outstanding and delicious. I live in RSM my children live in Ladera Ranch my favorite Sushi Restourant is NOW!!! Kanpai.

Bad service! , Sushi it not fresh! , The rice it not japanese rice! , Bad food!.... But are japanese chef cooking!
