Restaurant Allegro - La Malbaie

I am writing this review from the bathroom. I attempted to relieve myself after the meal I had at Allegro tonight. It was not a pleasant experience. Allegro supposedly means "happy" in Italian, but whatever the opposite of happy is in Italy, that is where I am now. I ordered the carbonara, which was basically some pasta drowned in a bland cream sauce with tasteless ham. My daughter's lasagna looked appealing, but tasted like it came straight out of a can. This place is about as authentic Italian as Arthur Fonzerelli.

The food and service at this restaurant were excellent, with perfectly sized portions. I enjoyed all of the dishes, except for the ribs which were a bit dry, and the potatoes which could have used more seasoning.

Last night (nov 16.) the appetizer of calamari was good. main dishes of the calf meat in the lemon with mushrooms and the side of the pasta. veal was delicious and tender, the pasta was excellent with an amazingly mild sauce. my wife had the fish and chips that were plentiful, not greasy and just the right amount of teig. for the desert we share the house made an excellent one! they get a small help from all three aromen, vanilla, chocolate and maple. marc was our waiter nd was excellent, with great presentation and customer service, very attentive and just the right amount of humor. I would definitely recommend this place, in which we will come back before our trip is over.

Outstanding! The atmosphere is cool and relaxed, the food and drinks are excellent, and the service, especially from Kathy, is friendly and competent.

The experience at Allegro started off shakey. Took awhile for our party of 4 to get 4 cups of water (we had 2 for 40 minutes). They seem short staffed, but the waiter remained positive and friendly throughout the night.Duck Confit was served hot and very delicious served with lots of greens! Good sized portion, the right amount of fat, and very tasty. Salmon tartar was also great.Steak and Frites was good served on the side with their House Sauce. Steak itself was nothing to rave about but cooked exactly to my liking (med-rare). Fries crispy.
