Lou Clapas - La Canourgue

Had two excellent meals at Lou Clapas. Stunning location- worth the drive- and very pleasant, polite staff that welcomed us (with our dogs) without reservation. The trout was fantastic, and the pizza was also excellent. Desserts were good rather than outstanding. definitely a place to check out if you're in the area.

Recommended by our hotel, further than we anticipated up a windy road. Views superb.Looked closed but was not, very welcoming and excellently furnished.Menu and house wine were excellent value and different, including a nettle soup which I would not have chose if I had realised what it was. I would order it again! Food amongst the best we have had anywhere.We, initially were the only people in the restaurant. For once it did not distract from the enjoyment.Two men arrived later and ordered pizza, we saw the preparation. They looked incredible.Run by a Husband, the chef, and Wife. Probably amongst the best service we have had anywhere. Discussed the food, the scenery, and gave great local information.After a day of strikes, road works etc it was what we needed.Lovely restaurant, great food and really lovely people. This is what the off route areas of France can be likeWill return and thank you.

I was close to giving this a 4 star rating but the quality of the food relative to the price just let it down a bit and that's obviously rather important in a restaurant!We had the pizzas and they weren't the tastiest we've had. I'm sure a bit of extra seasoning and some stronger flavoured ingredients would fix this - the place was busy and perhaps if we'd had some of the other choices available it would have been fine.Everything else worked fine - they have a proper wood-fired pizza oven, the staff we met were friendly (other reviews suggest this can be hit or miss but no problems for us), the location is interesting (and so is the drive to it!) with good views even on the cloudy, dark summer evening which we managed to pick!So maybe take this as 3.5 stars - better than average but a touch less than very good.

Nice coffee, drinks and food. The bar staff is friendly, the place is clean. Good value for money and definitively a place to have a break. Five Stars!

We had dinner in July 2014 the 4 of us. It's quite a drive uphill. This one the most disappointing restaurant we were unlucky to try. The food was very basic, small portions and very overpriced. The only passable dish was the kid pizza. But everything else was very bland.
