Bidra med feedbackAfter a good lunch in a summer afternoon, we visited this place for some desserts. Ordered the Strawberry Tart and Chocolate Marquise tart. Both were full of flavor but I am partial towards the strawberry one.
My Cobb salad was delicious. Couldn’t fault it. My companions had the finger sandwiches, egg, chicken and smoked salmon respectively. They reported they were lovely. We shared a key lime pie, a mixed berry tart and a Paris opera slice for desert. All were delicious but we all agreed the key lime pie was the best and has excellent flavour. The coffee was unexpectedly excellent as was the hot chocolate. Service was lovely too. We really liked this place.
The service was much better than expected, as the meals came very quickly. I enjoyed the gnocchi. It's wasn't the greatest, but I just wanted something served fast before the show. The waiter made a fantastic suggestion to get some veggies as a side to share.
A thorough treat to eat Made me glow before the show!. It is funny when one pauses to read the previous reviewers; I often wonder if we have been to the same restaurant. Perhaps they got the names mixed up? Perhaps they are jealous ex lovers of the staff? Perhaps I have slipped through a brane into another dimension, away from the evil, dark side of Café Vic?<br/ <br/ The meal myself and my wife enjoyed was delicious, inexpensive and served by polite, smiling staff. If anything, the entrée that I had (chicken liver pâté with a 65 degree cooked egg) was a little too large. However, I was starving, so that suited me well. As for my blue eye cod...I really had no idea I would like cod so much. And the tastes they dressed it with were playful and surprisingly good.<br/ <br/ Generally being used to paying one hundred dollars for a meal for two, my wife and I left, satisfied and sated for just over seventy. If you like food that is pretty as well as tasty, then this may well be the place for you. I know it is where I am headed for before the next show. Oh yes, and a quick word too on the fact that we only had thirty five minutes before our show and having told them that, they brought the meal to us within five minutes. I do not believe I have ever been so quickly served!
Ideal before a show, but .... Café Vic isn't a place for fine dining, it's a place for a convenient meal before the opera or a concert. That means that they have to deal with a packed restaurant, everyone wanting their meal finished and the bill paid before 7.30pm. All things considered they do it quite well, and the price is reasonable though it would be nice if they varied the menu a bit more. If you're a regular concert goer, after a while you end up eating the same dish time after time. Service can be variable but mostly we've had friendly, helpful waiters who've deserved their tip at the end of dinner. It's much better now that there is table service and you can book too.
