Bidra med feedbackWe attended Lydia’s ‘ cakeaway’ in Hull for Disney afternoon tea after my sister had seen it advertised on Facebook. After booking and being excited we attended and was disappointed and underwhelmed. At £10 each adults and child alike I thought the food would be wonderful, and the atmosphere electric with excitement. It sadly was not. The room was cold. The food came on just one platter between us and a few sandwiches and biscuits with cakes. Yes they resembled a famous mouse shape, hero biscuit and princess cupcake but not wow! More like what I give my daughter for a picnic at home. The music was on in the background but anyone can play a Disney playlist as we do at home. I thought perhaps a character or two may appear to entertain or say hi to the children in the room but sadly no. Upon entering the cold toilets we were greeted by pink toilet paper not good for those with sensitive skin! and a baby changing mat on the floor my daughter pointed out it was sad for any baby who had to lay down to be changed in the cold! . Overall, after many successful trips to various Disney or princess afternoon teas we would rate this as the worst. The potential was absolutely there just the final sparkly touches were missing. The girl serving us was lovely and made time for the children but that isn’t always enough. We will not be returning and have tea booked for half term somewhere else at a whole £5 per child and £10 per adult.
Went to Lydia’s for the Harry Potter afternoon tea. Loved it. Everything was clearly handmade and home baked. A lot of thought had obviously gone into choosing each item of food to fit the theme and everything tasted amazing.
I have had a number of pleasant and relaxing visits to Lydia's Cake away. It has been amazing each visit, with a streamlined menu to meet a number of differing, customers requirements . In addition, Lydia, the owner is welcoming, smiling and extremely friendly. Nothing is to much trouble, the food, nibbles, cakes and drinks are beautiful, at tasty competative prices. Morover, her delights are homemade, her baking is exquisite, that's for sure, and presentation makes for a great experience with bespoke China pottery. This little cafe is a popular meeting place for many, hosting varied events for different occasions, such as a recent Harry Potter themed events, and can be booked for even clubs and get togethers . There are plenty of options including, varied dietery and allergy requirements that are and can be catered for, not to mention veggie based products. Furthermore, it is relaxing, watching the world go bye through the oanaramic window, overlooking Newland Avenue. The foods you will find and to be reccomended through experience are bagels, with cream cheese and strawberries, cheese and Tomato toasties with salad and tortilla chips. Finally, Earl Grey tea in China cups, topped off with a slice of cake, for me it was lime cake, to comiment the savoury course. Great coffee shop, pleasant owner and staff, bespoke surroundings, relaxing and has a 5 on the door, not surprised, its lovely and clean, a little hidden gem. The cafe and owner welcomes changing for people who would like to bring their babies, children, toddlers to a warm and embracing envoiroment . A must for all, Lydia has put her heart and sole into this cafe, and it shows, I could sit their all day and often do and she always remembers conversations had to follow up when you return, impressive ! Give this local place and Lydia and team your support!!!!!
I went here with two friends for a catch up before I go work abroad!! The staff were really friendly and welcoming, we ordered a toastie and a can of coke for starts then ordered a milkshake and cake, the staff member informed us it would be cheaper to do it as afternoon tea and with that we got six pieces of cake each and a milkshake in a teapot!! It was great!!
Popped in for some soup and a drink one cold afternoon. Noticed there seemed to be knitting groups and film afternoons advertised in this small cafe. Nice to see a place that opens its space to groups to meet. The girl behind the counter was very friendly.
