Bidra med feedbackDelicious food and a great atmosphere. Enjoyed my cottage pie and husband thought his Guinness Stew was not what he expected. He preferred my cottage pie over his dish. Friendly atmosphere and good food.
Good food and service. We had a party of 12 and Our bill could not be split Quite an ordeal but finally Settled.
We stopped in because the tourist office suggested we go watch the Irish Dancing Mon Thursday. The pub is very nice but not the old world feel that most have. It seems to have been turned into one of the more modern Gastro/bistro pubs with neon lighting and large open spaces. It does however, work well for live music and dancing. Ger Hayes and the Irish Dancing are why this is 5 stars, as honestly I think without him it would be a solid 3. As an aside we stopped in again the following day for a quick cuppa and the warmth and friendliness we have found in all of the other places was sadly, missing. Back to the Irish dancing... Ger Hayes talent is hard to believe. His feet move with lightning speed and accuracy. It is mind boggling that we get to see him, right there in person, so close he could trip over your feet. This talented man has toured with Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and was choreographer for Celtic Legends. To think stateside, folks pay through the nose to see this kind of show and talent on a stage and from a distance when we were able to enjoy it, for the cost of a few drinks right in front of our noses. Unbelievable. A huge shout out to the band too. They were a fun, lively, accompaniment to Ger Hayes and played all evening with no break or let up! Super professional as well as a great sound. I believe this should be on everybody 's 'Must Do ' list.
We stopped in Lanigan 's per suggestions from others that had visited Kilkenny. We sat at the bar, as all the tables were taken. It was early evening. Ordered a Guiness and a Bulmer 's Irish Cider. First experience having a cider served with a glass of ice, but I am here to learn new things, so I will drink my ice cold cider over ice. The menu was nice, and offered a lot, a lot more than just bar food that you are used to in the states. I opted for the fish and chips, my husband the curry. This curry at Lanigan 's Bar is by far the best curry we had during our vacation!! The bartender was so friendly! It died down a little, and he talked to us a lot about different things. 80 's music was rocking, there was a huge screen with a soccer game playing. About 8:3/9:00 PM, the pub cleared out! The DJ started to set up, and eventually was playing more dance/club music. Our bartender told us that this is when the younger crowd starts to flow in. Also educated us on Kilkenny being a tourist town for local Irish people for birthday trips and bachelor/bachelorette parties. Restrooms were super clean. The wait staff was attendant and observant. Wished we had more time in Kilkenny so we could 've come by more than just once.
Not the first time i've enjoyed a good night in this bar as i was reminded when i went to post this review. it is absolutely without a doubt the best bar in Kilkenny and its the staff that make it that good. we were in here for a birthday party on a Monday night and it was so good we spent most of the Tuesday in here too. has to be your first and last stop on any visit to Kilkenny!!!
