Texas Homebrewers - Katy

Convenient to Katy area. A knowledgeable staff who will answer you calls if you're having trouble with a batch. This is an excellent place for a brewer to get started into the craft or for the experienced brewer to get fresh supplies. The shop is small with little inventory, so I come here mostly for grains, hops or a kit when I'm feeling lazy. Located near the intersection of Mortan Ranch Fry Road, the shop has plenty of parking and is easy to get to. In addition to beer brewing, the shop offers wine kits and some novelty shirts and gear. Update: I have been using Texas Homebrewers now for several months and just realized that my review needed an update. Over the past six months I have brewed 50 gallons of beer using Texas Homebrewers. It isn't just the ingredients I come here for. A lot of my equipment is over 25y old and traveled from New York to New Orleans to Milwaukee and ended up sitting in my Houston garage for 16y baking in the heat. I have relied heavily on TH for guidance an fixing or replacing parts and expanding my knowledge of Homebrewing. Next Step: I bought a Merlot wine kit for my wife for her birthday. We figure that we can give bottles of our homemade wine as gifts during this winter's holidays. Or maybe just drink it?! Way to go Texas Homebrewers in bringing much needed beer and wine making supplies and talent into Katy, Texas!

It's an okay store with okay prices. I do want to like this store so much more but it does seem that it is run more like a hobby than a business. Website is not kept up, email blasts are very rare to promote events. I've asked about specials, such as the ones I see from Northern Brewer, Adventures in Homebrewing, or Austin Homebrew Supply, (whom are constantly marketing and promoting , but was just handed a book of recipes. The recent reduction in store hours is curious. Matt is very knowledgeable certainly. He is very helpful when I've asked about my equipment, issues I've had, or general tips. But I don't get the same level of expertise when he is not there. I disagree that it's convenient to the Katy area. It takes me nearly 30 minutes to get there and I live in Katy. It is simply a PITA coming up Fry Rd from I 10 and going thru the hundred stop lights and dealing with the traffic. Wish this store was in a more central location to the greater Katy residential area. They should survey where there customer base is located and consider relocating. : . I'll continue to support this store as I can but I will also take advantage of specials when presented.

I've only had to come in for some Star San so far but my experience was quick and pleasant. My online experience may be slightly different, tbd. I ordered some supplies on Thursday Sept. 1st to make some more mead, I received an order confirmation same day but have yet to receive a shipping confirmation. I've emailed them about when orders are typically packed/shipped (typically packed same day and shipped day after), so hopefully they forgot to send the confirmation and my order arrives when it should on Tuesday. edit/update: Spoke (via email) with the shop. It was an unfortunate circumstance, along with it being a holiday weekend, that the shop had no control over that lead to a slight delay in my order. They were prompt responding and offered to cancel/refund my order or substitute the product with something else.

A friend and I split the cost of brewing wine so luckily we 're able to keep a batch always going this is where we go, hands down. I absolutely LOVE Texas Homebrewers they have been so nice and helpful every time we come in, offering suggestions with no push to buy anything and everything. I 've even called up there with questions after asking a million in the store and they 're still helpful, not making me feel silly even if my question is. They 're open late on Fridays, which is nice when you break your siphon tubing before bottling. They do demonstrations on Saturdays (keep meaning to make it out to one! and are over all a wonderful business. The owners dog is absolutely precious that holds down the fort there! When I come in with my toddler it 's a challenge to keep her from smacking the dog in what she thinks is a gentle pet lol Great Customer Service, Great selection and comparable prices. They even put up with my friend and I wanting to split the total on two different credit cards...so sometime we 're those people. Thanks guys!

Must be under new ownership. Walked in and nobody said a word. Couldn't have been more unaware. Was ready to buy 2 new recipes and nothing. Waited 5 minutes and walked right out. Sucks my go to place is gone. Won't be going back. I don't normally leave reviews but was compelled to leave one here. Absolutely will not spend money there. Will drive across town and go to Defalcos every time from here out.
