Maybe we're here on the wrong day, but the staff was very atmospheric. we didn't see a smile and they couldn't even lift their feet when they left. we ordered 2 masala dosa and a part of masala chips. it took 40 minutes to prepare our dosa, although there was only one table in the restaurant. the dosa was tiny and they had not the sambar. only after we insisted that they should replace him, we finally made them serve us dhal. the dosa was good enough. the masala chips were sloppy and boiled under.
Govindas is great if you are looking for a veg only spot in Kampala. But the food is a bit pricey and not that good. I prefer the chaat at Masala Chaat House next door.
I went there only once so cannot write an extremely objective review. I tried the mini thali as it is vegan (many other dishes aren't and most desserts and sweets aren't neither, on the left side of the counter they contain milk, on the right side, some might be vegan, you have to ask which ones contain honey they contain no milk). The portion was big enough for me : stir fried chillies, clear dahl, bean, peas, lentil dahl-like, chiapati, rice, cucumbers, stir friend vegetables (I think including potatoes). The meal was good, nothing exceptional but not bad at all. The place isn't the cleanest ever but it's fine. You can wash your hands, there's a small barrel with water and soap close to one of the counters. They also serve jain samosa, possibly vegan, you should ask. I took a lemon tea and as it is Uganda, it was black tea plus ginger with lemon. Updated from previous review on 2018-11-28
