Illovo Mastrantonio - Johannesburg

I ordered some dulche de leche crepes. It got delivered really quickly and it was well spelled and packaged. It came with some vanilla ice cream. The crepes were really thin and light. Unfortunately, it includes only 2 crepes so the serving is quite small for the price.

The staff are all wonderfully friendly and attentive. The ambience is cosy and is perfect for an intimate night out or a social with friends. <br/  The food order came quickly! Advisable to make a booking like we did as it seems the place fills up<br/ Tortellini Aurora : Chicken filled pasta parcels in a tomato and cream sauce. Panzotti : Large parcels filled with artichoke and ricotta cheese served in a cream, butter and sage sauce. Both pasta were incredible!

Dined at Matrantonio on a busy Friday night. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. A party of six had the prawn pasta and the prawn risotto. Pasta was divine. The risotto was the best I’ve had outside of Italy. Very rich and decadent so be sure you’re hungry. The prawns were extremely generous and exceptionally well cooked. This may become my new favourite restaurant. Had the profiteroles for dessert. Not overly large after the risotto. The profiteroles were moist and tasty and the chocolate sauce was delicious.

Absolutely delicious food , went for a casual evening our and had their “Panzotti” and it was one of thee best things I’ve ever had, along with their calamari starter! I would highly recommend giving them a try !!

This is a lovely restaurant but it's not glitzy or a follower of fashion. This restaurant is, I humbly suggest, a traditional Italian trattoria. It serves wholesome and correctly cooked Italian dishes. The menu is lengthy and varied, but not adventurous, the dishes are the ones to be found in any good trattoria in Italy. The ambiance was warm, relaxing and unpretentious. It was obvious that many of the customers were long time regulars. The service was sharp and professional. My two guests and I had an excellent evening.
