The food is good but I think the word Lebanese is over stretched a little....however, the cafe is let down by the apathetic reception received. Maybe the gentleman who served me was fed up and young girl just fed up of his whispered asides and expressionless guidance but as a new customer (and Lebanese) I was not impressed. There are some amazing Lebanese pop up restaurants appearing in this part of Hackney one I visited on Ridley Road market, run by two amazing young Lebanese guys who were friendly and gave the most amazing service and tasty food. If you are prepared to be treated badly then stay at Hoxton Beach otherwise do ya thing at the leisure centre and hold on until you can get to somewhere else or go home and create your own tasty snack for half the price. There are also some great café/bistros round the corner on Church Street.
The wait in line is definitely worth it for the delicious, fresh falafel at this restaurant. You can enjoy them in a wrap or a box with added fresh ingredients like fava beans or eggplant.
For four pounds, you get three fresh falafels, fried aubergines, hummus, tahini and some chopped veg. Real feel good food. The falafel man has the fastest hands going a true pro who clearly enjoys what he does.
I have visited this falafel restaurant many times. It is affordable and quick to grab during lunch hours on Whitecross Street. The staff may not be the friendliest, but it doesn't matter as long as we can enjoy a great deal.
