Red Ginger - Iowa City

Sushi, teriyaki, miso soup, and salads were all good. We enjoyed our ice there.Food: 4/5

I’ve had sushi from all over the world and I can honestly say that I would vote Red Ginger Sushi over New York City Omakase any day. Their fish is so fresh and the hospitality and service is unmatched. You can really tell that every single person working there is passionate about their work and it shows in their culinary products. This is a great spot for first dates and even bringing friends for a nice sushi boat. This is HANDS DOWN the best sushi spot in Iowa City. I LOVE their Manhattan roll and New Age Roll. Can’t recommend enough.

Service was great, lunch special was good. But the specialty roll was terrible..you could definitely tell the fish used to top it had been frozen from its texture and the entire roll did not seem fresh..Food: 3/5

We arrived at 5:15 and there was only one other table eating. Waiter was not real familiar with menu I was more familiar after looking at the website before arriving. The soup wasn’t hardly warm and the salad had a pool of liquid in the bottom with wilted lettuce. It was evident it had been sitting in the bowl leftover from noon. My husband ordered teriyaki and I had sushi. It concerned me I saw my sushi sitting on counter of sushi bar long before it was served when my husband’s entree came. Needless to say you don’t want to eat raw fish at room temp. Had the potential to be excellent food but don’t serve room temp sushi. We sat quite awhile waiting for our ticket to pay and they still weren’t very busy. We won’t be returning.

The sweet potato roll is a must-try, it's delicious! Everything I tried was great, plus our server was awesome. I've been to Red Ginger once before and had a good experience, so pleased to have a repeat!Food: 5/5
