Perez Family Tacos - Iowa City

Food is good, service not so much. Ordered carry out. Guy says it’ll be ready in 20 minutes. I show up 25 minutes later, and they say it’ll be another 5. 30 minutes later, the food is finally done. No single apology.

Perhaps the best meal I’ve ever had in Iowa City. The breakfast tacos were phenomenal, especially the brisket. I also enjoyed the queso with chorizo.

Made a yelp just to comment on this absolute waste of time and money. Three guys working the kitchen bar. Took an hour for them to bring out 2 burritos and there were only 6 other customers in the restaurant. You have to order/pay/tip online- no waiters. There will be 0 sense of urgency to get you your food once the order is in. Servers didn't read order instructions; brought out the wrong drink, included item I specifically requested off. Servers never checked in with my table, no apologies for mistakes, and then proceeded to act annoyed when I asked for the correct drink to-go boxes (burritos came out in wet bowls w washer stains/lettuce). Witnessed another customer get their order screwed up before me, so it seems like a common theme. Horrible prices horrible service. 0/10

Was on the College Green side of campus and decided to stop here for dinner. Inside is very casual and the ordering process is more like a take-out situation with the option to dine in. Not really true table service, which is fine if you go in with that expectation. Either order at the front and pick a table/order to-go or seat yourself and use a QR code to order food.Interior is very dive bar feeling with a couple booths and some tables. We felt the atmosphere inside was a little strange, like we were intruding on the staffs time with the regulars or something. Kind of wish it was nicer outside when we went so we could be on the patio, which seems like the move for this place.Overall, food was pretty good. I liked my tacos a lot but my partner said the quesadilla was just okay. Queso is more like a Tex-Mex style Alfredo sauce and chips were just okay.Probably won’t return for dine in but might try again for take out just to see if there are better menu items since it seems there’s good reviews for their food.Pricing was good but feel weird to leave a tip via their ordering system before being served.
