Bidra med feedbackMy husband’s meal of venison loin with black pudding and beetroot was first class! However, although my haddock was beautifully cooked with a crisp, light batter the chips that were served with it were only warm and seemed to be oven chips they seemed to have been just kept warm perhaps while the fish was cooking. Disappointing chips !! This was surprising as the usual standard at Nickt Tam’s is very good. Perhaps a nice touch would have been homemade tartare sauce with chunks of capers ??
While the associated hotel is beginning to look a bit shabby, this on site restaurant creates a cosy retreat and, dining with our children, was very warm and welcoming. A cosy wee bar but with plenty space in the restaurant. The food options catered for us all, and the pork belly in particular was sensational. I'd go back for that alone! The staff were very attentive and friendly, and when we asked to take away the kids' leftovers, they not only obliged, but had also made drawings of the contents on the lids for us which the kids promptly coloured in. Very nice touch, and a fitting end to a pleasant meal. We hope to be back!
The venue is very nice to sit in and the staff were welcoming. It was disappointing that there was no local beer on draught. The prawn starter was fairly small and the balsamic coating was overpowering, making the dish quite bitter. The main, a steak pie, was ok but again verged on disappointing. I would have expected proper hand cut chips and more vegetables for the price.

Comedy of errors!! Waiter tripped and we were nearly wearing our food. Bland overpriced tiny portions of food. One of our party didn't get their main until the rest were finished. Not much of an apology and had to ask for it to be taken off the bill. Food was ok but totally over priced for quality and portions. Would not recommend and would not go back. Saturday night and almost empty should have warned us.
