Before the new owners I loved this restaurant and it was one of my favorite places to go for special occasions. I've been there twice since the new owners took over and both times were extremely disappointing. The first was for dinner. I ordered the Whisky Pork Chop. A friend had ordered this previously and said it was delicious. The presentation looked nice but all of the food was bland and needed seasoning. I chalked it up to a fluke since I've never had a negative experience. Today I took my Mother's here for a Mother's Day lunch. We got there and discovered you could not order from the menu but only from a Brunch menu that had a out 6 items such as French Toast, Waffles, Quiche, Crab Cake Benedict (but you get one crab cake for the same price that you normally get two on the appetizer menu. . No one has informed me of this. It was not on the website anywhere, but they would not make any accommodations or substitutions. I've also had lovely waitresses who were kind and gave great service. Today was a man who was unapologetic and pushy. I decided to leave and go elsewhere. I'm not sure I will return and I will definitely let my friends know about the experience very disappointing.
This was the best dining experience of my life. The atmosphere is beautiful. The food is stellar. But the service is what really makes this gem unique. Our server Shelley and the manager Mary are the nicest, most positive energy people you'll ever meet. If you are trying to impress someone with a restaurant in the Independence area, this is it.
This place is just CHARMING. I finally got to dinner here (before our glass blowing class just two doors down and I could wander the rooms for an hour. It 's like a fusion of Pryde 's and Webster House and every inch is fascinating. We had such great service and just look at this colorful and fresh food! I got the vegan Napoleon with roasted eggplant, peppers, portobello, mole refried black beans, and red pepper coulis. Brian 's lamb was excellent with delicious veggies (cumin? Curry? The rosé was delish. Brian brought home a basil verbena candle. We also finished off the whole mushroom cheesecake appetizer plate full of cheese, nuts and perfectly ripe blackberries and strawberries. (Sorcery! I loved that they offer just about any protein OR meat free option you could ask for. ?Want to make plans to go back already!
This is truly a hidden Kansas City gem. I had the best customer service I've ever had. Our server was amazing.I ordered an appetizer, an entree, and dessert, and everything was simply stellar. I don't know if this is my favorite dining experience in my hometown, but it is definitely top three. Incredible.
