We just visited Åsgårdsstrand and saw some sign along the seaside pointing to the cafe. So we went and had coffee and cake. The price was astonishing 260 kroner for 2 coffees and 2 cakes. Anyway the staff was foreign origin but smiling. The interior was very nice we sat in the cafeteria section cosy, but the restaurant section was even nicer. Nice to have been there, would not visit again :
This cafe is a must when visiting Åsgårdstrand. They offer many beautiful desserts and other food options. It is very overpriced, however, and there are no prices listed on any of the desserts. We had to ask the staff member for the price of each item we were considering and since she didn't know herself she had to ask another staff member for the price. Customers can help themselves more if prices are clearly listed. In addition, the staff should be more knowledgable about the items they are selling to avoid appearing unprofessional.
This small, beautiful village, once the home of Edvard Munch, is quiet off season. We had lunch in Munch's Cafe. Welcomed by the friendly and helpful owner, we selected our food and were seated by a wood fire in a room decorated with prints by Munch. The food was good and the portions generous.
Firstly, to foreign visitor the prices here will seem astronomical! We paid £18 for 2 coffees and a Norwegian donut (I don't know the proper name). Nothing special. But we sat outside in the warm late august sunshine and Martin, the owner, came and had a chat with us. He was quick to tell us that he was Norway's most famous bank robber having robbed 19 banks. Interesting guy!
