Bidra med feedbackAs Kama 'aina and dedicated fan of Hilo 's Amano products... I would give this business a 10-star rating. I can't get it or haven't found it yet in Las Vegas, NV. Used to get the Uzumaki steamed fish cake in Takahashi 's Market, the huge amount of Hawaii products in San Mateo, CA, where I lived for many years. I don't think it's better. Best for taste, moisture and smoothness. I had many brand of fish cakes and find them too dense and of less quality, texture and taste. I hope they find a place in Las Vegas 'the ninth island' to carry their products. Miss it soooo much.
Best gobo fishcake tempura. Only thing, I haven’t seen it in our Oahu Waipio Costco for months now. I miss it. ?Cut up some spam, brown it and pour cup shoyu/water mix with 2 Hawaiian chili peppers and add sliced Amano fishcake. Bring to boil and simmer.Ono with rice or in ramen.
I was introduced to Amano after finding one of their products at a local grocer, Kelly's Superette. THE GOODS: Surimi $4.79 (16 oz. tray) AKA fish paste. Made of Alaskan pollock and pacific whiting, the consistency is like a thick pudding. What we do is mix in one raw egg, sliced green onions and spoon them into hot oil which makes fish cake bites. It goes great with your adult beverage! The flavor is a bit sweet like traditional fish cake so I drizzled on some shoyu to cut down the sweetness. I'm going to add in some salt on my next go around and see how that fares. OVERALL: While not as good as o'io fish cake, beggars can't be choosy. Or can I be?
You can't get any fresher. Love going in the morning when they are just made.
