Bidra med feedbackI stopped at this restaurant on my way to the US border and was hesitant to try sushi in a small town in Southern Alberta. Despite my initial doubts, I found the food to be decent. The restaurant is located in a strip mall alongside a Subway, a laundromat, and a pot shop, which seemed promising. However, the person taking orders was unfriendly, bordering on rude. The "bento" meal was not traditional, consisting of only two items without salad or rice. Despite this, it was a reasonable price at $10. The squid rings were mostly batter with little squid, and the sauce with the gyoza was sour. However, both dishes tasted good. The california roll and nigiri were satisfying. After adding a Coke, my total came to $24, and I was almost full. Overall, if you are looking for sushi in the area, this place will suffice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it again.
I eat here regularly. Never had a poor meal. I see people going in to Subway next door, and not going into this place. Don't really understand why. I don't mean to argue with the poster who said they had to throw food away, I guess anything can happen. But any meal I have had there is great, anyone I have taken there has really loved it. My son who likes Sushi and is going to school in Toronto was shocked at the portions you got for the price. He is not a Sushi snob, but I would expect has had pretty good Sushi in TO. I usually have the rice bowl of beef or chicken. Prepared right there, and is excellent. All for $10, hard to believe.
We decided to stop at this restaurant before a hockey game, expecting a tasty meal based on the reviews. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed! My husband ordered smoked salmon rolls, and I opted for a Bento Box with Tempura Shrimp and Sweet and Sour Chicken. To our dismay, my Bento Box arrived in a black plastic container with two extremely over-fried shrimp and chicken strips that were unrecognizable and poorly coated in a thick, inedible sauce. The rice was mushy and lacked flavor. I usually am not a picky eater, but I couldn't even finish one bite of the chicken. It was truly a unique and unpleasant experience coming from a restaurant. I ended up having to throw the entire meal away. Furthermore, two out of the four compartments in the plastic box were completely empty, which was a disappointment as a Bento Box typically includes a variety of items. It was shocking to pay $10 for such a subpar meal. I would rate this restaurant a 0 if I could, but unfortunately, that is not an option.
One would not expect much from a sushi restaurant located so far inland without access to fresh, quality fish. However, the sushi here exceeded expectations, surpassing what can be found at the local supermarket. While it wasn't a bad experience, it wasn't good enough to warrant driving across town to try again.
In the middle of fast food hamburgers there's a lighter option. Eco Yaki not only has great sushi but a I love the teriyaki rice bowls.
