Carmen’s Cafe - Herrin

This is by far the most authentic Mexican taco and birria place I have found since moving here from Florida a few years ago. Hands down my favorite food in the area ?

Cheat as always, great food and wide selection of cone icecream.

The paletas are a wonderful treat. Great flavor and texture! The oreo one was awesome.Street tacos were quite good and the strawberries cream snack item was a pleasant surprise given that it was made with fresh sliced strawberries and isn't overly sweet!!This was our first time and I'm looking forward to going back!

The food here is amazing. Carmen's Special and ice cream! Looks like Herrin has a little known jewel for Southern Illinois. This is my new favorite place to eat.Parking: This place has about 30 parking spots. Plenty of room to park and go Dine in.Wheelchair accessibility: There are no steps, wheelchair have full access to the entire lobby.

I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries and onion rings, my wife had fries, and a chicken sandwich. I could not finish the cheeseburger because of the taste. It tasted similar to gyro meat, but something was very wrong. My wife's chicken sandwich was a processed round patty that was maybe ¼ inch thick at best. The staff were polite, I think maybe they should stick to a few menu items that they do well, rather than a large variety.
