Bidra med feedbackWe love this pub not only for the hearty, scrumptious food that is always home cooked and good but we also love the landlord and landlady. Nothing else needed to be said. You must try it!
We were travelling fr the midlands to Pen Y Fan and stopped along the way for some food. After not being able to get in where we’d planned to (thank goodness! my husband found this place on Google. Put in a quick call to check they were doing food still and they were. They didn’t take details from us but we said we’d be along shortly. 10 minutes later we walked through the door to one of the warmest welcomes and most beautiful, genuine smiles! Not only that but in the the busy little bar area, a table had been prepared for us! We ordered some drinks and 2 of their Wagu burgers. Oh. My. God. I’ve never eaten anything so good! The lady who brought it out, I think was the land lady, was wonderfully friendly too. This pub was one of those no frills places with quirky signs on the walls and honesty boxes for local eggs. And I cannot wait to return. It just goes to show if you, if you do the simple things perfectly, you can beat the most high profile establishments! I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
We came to stay in Llangarron for the weekend to celebrate my sisters 40th. We chose the Royal Arms a head time for the birthday meal on the Saturday evening. Brilliant communication via email prior all set for our visit. When we came into the pub to drop the cake off the land lady was very welcoming. When we returned on the evening the pub looked cosy but was cold. The starters came out they looked and tasted great, we had salt and pepper squid, and my sister had chicken gougons. The main course however was not so good unfortunately. 6 out of 14 had steak, 3 steaks had a funny taste and smelt cheesy. We highlighted this to the staff and she took away the plates, the land lady/ cook came out advised she and the staff tasted them and they were fine. She offered to cook the remaining 2, but 3 meals were returned, no alternative was offered and we were still charged for 3 meals that weren 't eaten. When we returned to our accomodation we Googled steak that smells of cheese and its says "Steak Smells Like Cheese If you want to learn how to know if beef is bad, rely mainly on your sense of smell. If it smells rotten and rancid, discard it right away. You may also notice that steak smells a bit like cheese when it 's cooking. This happens primarily to dry-aged steaks from the produced lactic acid that results from the dry-aging process. This can cause a taste and smell that is similar to blue cheese. ' As long as it’s cooked to the right temperature, 160 degrees Fahrenheit, and without too much clarified butter, the bacteria should be killed off, making your steak safe to eat. ' One of our party ate all of his steak and subsequently spent the evening throwing up. And further 2 in the party were up all night with diarrhea. Had we not have been charged for the 3 steaks we hadn 't eaten, it may have gone some way to amelioration the issue that arose. It came across more that we were causing issue which wasnt the case, and later came across that the staff seemed unhappy with our presence. Needless to say we were hugely disappointed and couldn 't recommend.
We were staying at Llangrove and went to the Royal Arms on the first evening and were made very welcome by the young lady on the bar. The atmosphere was good and nothing was too much trouble. Our meal was excellent. The landlady who also cooked our meal came over and spoke to us and was very nice, friendly and welcoming. Similarly, the next evening, excellent food, welcome and atmosphere. We had Sunday roast and that too was lovely. Home cooked to perfection. Claire, the landlady, who also does alot of the cooking, was a great host, having a word with diners about their meals and their day. Towards the end of our stay we went to the quiz evening. We didn't win but again were made mist welcome. Well kept beer was a favourite and even our (well behaved) dog was always welcome. This is a gem of a pub in a rural village and a real part of the community. We hope to call in again sometime. Wishing Claire and Peter the very best.
Had two takeaways from here both delicious. Sunday roasts vege and non vege and a waghu burger and Buddha bowl both absolutely delicious. Generous portions and a great mix of ingredients. Would definitely go again and recommend to others.
