Bidra med feedbackA cozy and intimate setting in this chilly evening. 3 open fireplaces add warmth and ambience. Our family of four is sat next to a young couple in love, much to their chagrin. We start with a very good Negroni and a Martini. Extensive range of gins, yet strangely not invited to select one for either aperitif.Waitress is efficient, bordering on pushy, a little overly eager to take our order. We start with lightly dusted scallops with the most exquisite flower masking a dollop of fine caviar. Delish, whilst the heirloom beetroots were exquisite. Then beef fillet, cooked superbly. Marshmallow soft, yet seared and slightly charred gives complexity and depth of flavours, whilst the trout with Moreton bay bug was first class. Then cheese - d'Affinois and Roquefort with strangely stale house made crackers, quince paste and pickled walnuts. Roquefort beautiful but d'Affinois served too cold.Curly Flat 2014 Pinot Noir was delightful.Kids' steak and chips and violet icecream were both excellent.
We splashed out on our weekend away and had the 5 course degustation with matching wines; it was absolutely delicious! Our favourite was the lamb dish, so tender and perfectly cooked. The staff were very attentive and friendly and explained all the dishes and wines. It is more than we would normally spend on a night out, but the menu is made with all local fresh produce, and the taste is definitely worth it. Would recommend booking a table to anyone heading to Daylesford!
This is one of those wonderful expereinces of food and and location, great staff and old world interiors in the Hepburn Region. So should you be in Dylesford for the walks, to take the waters to wander this iconic little town dinner, or lunch is a must. We managed a dinner booking, booking advised! I had an amazing beef carpachio, while my partner had the scallops in squid ink...amazing tastes. I followed with lamb and skordalia made with the local purple viking potatoes!! ( a little too salty for my taste...but lets not notice that!) deserts to share for us...was grand. Check your bill tho...we were later a bit surprised by one of the sherry prices...it was a perfect drop...so it did not matter. We would definitely return.
Went into the restaurant to make a reservation for that evening. They recommended the degustation menu and we asked if they had a vegetarian option to which they confirmed. We arrived for dinner and they once again stated that they could do a vegetarian degustation and I confirmed what I could and could not eat. We ordered and after a lengthy wait, drinks were served. Our first course was served and even though I couldn't really tell what is was I was shocked to take a bite and my first mouthful was dried fish and fish roe which I can't eat. It then took at least 10 minutes for us to get the waiter's attention and from there it didn't get much better. My husband's meal was alright (rated a 7) but it was quite apparent that the restaurant does not cater well for a vegetarian degustation meal.
Be sure to order your drinks after 4.00pm when happy hour begins! We ordered at 3.50pm and had to pay full price!!
