The Rim - Hawaiʻi County

I visited without a reservation and was lucky enough to get in without waiting. The view was good and the taste was good.

View is very nice. Waiter was great. Pizza was the worst I have ever had. Bland crust, undercooked and flavorless.

Great meal and wonderful service. Spectacular views of the crater. One word of warning: we split the bill, but the suggested tips on the receipt reflected the total, not the half. We fell for it and overtipped. It was great service, but not that great

We love coming here for the breakfast buffet. They may not have the best breakfast buffet food selections you could possibly find but what they do have is definitely good and definitely worth the price. Theirs is certainly the best breakfast buffet on the Big Island outside of Kona. With that said though they DO have one of the best and probably the most unique view for a buffet in all of Hawaii. In almost any weather condition the crater is beautiful to look at. If you’re lucky enough to get in when it’s erupting it is just spectacular (sorry I don’t have any digital pics from the restaurant). The service here is awesome! Their servers are friendly and helpful and it’s a great place for kids. All the drinks are part of the buffet. They have great drip coffee, delicious hot chocolate with whipped cream and a variety of fruit juices. You don’t need a park pass if you get there early enough, kids 5 years and younger are cheaper and they give you a discount if you’re staying at the hotel there.

Ordered the steak salad today and it was all gristle. Nice view though
