Bidra med feedbackMy first time here and having worked in the downtown area for the last 4 months, it was about time I visited Woody's. I love having a good hot dog and I am glad that I got down here. Woody's does have a variety on their menu and i ordered a deputy and philly cheese hot dogs. The ambiance is cluttered, the space being a little tight from where you wait in line to place your order until you pick your order up. But when you get your hands on those dogs, boy you will be blown away. Big sized dogs with loads of flavors. The Deputy dog had loads of pulled pork and sauces and deliciousness all packed together. It was a little messy to eat and i had to use a fork and knife, i did not mind it at all. As much as I enjoyed eating the Deputy, philly cheese was awesome too. Lessons learnt, when ordering such specialty hot dogs, never order two if it is your first visit to the restaurant : I am a fan and will definitely recommend Woody's.
Stopped into Woody's today with my kids after an afternoon at the Science Center. It was better than I was expecting. I was expecting a good hotdog, but what I got was a great hotdog and wonderful service. The lady at the counter went over their menu when I said we had not been in before. She was so friendly and even gave the kids each a gummy hotdog candy. The hotdogs themselves were reasonably priced and great tasting. And I read from other reviews that they don't accept credit cards, but they do for orders over $10 I thought that was fair. I got the Chicago dog, my one child the dog with cheese and bacon, and my youngest a plain dog. Great all beef dogs with yummy toppings. They were a little overwhelming in size to my kids (foot long) and the lady that helped us happily offered to cut up the hotdog into pieces for them. I also loved that they had a good selection of bottled sodas, which went great with the dogs and fries. I walked away from this place with a smile!
First of all this place is cash only! Be prepared (I was not, oops! . I've been walking by Woody's for 2 years now and can't believe this was my first visit. It's a kitschy sort of place, full of Miami Dolphin's fan gear and other sports memorabilia. They appear to have their episode of DDD playing on repeat in the front area and old Dolphins games playing in the bar area, but it isn't overly cheesy. I was a little surprised at $5+ for a hot dog, until I took my first bite. I ordered the Deputy Dog, with pulled pork and melted cheddar cheese, and was sold immediately. I was worried that one hot dog might not be satisfying enough but they're footlong (or close to it, anyway and it was more than enough. My friend had the Philly Dog and the Slaw Dog and we shared an order of fries. He's always hungry and usually eats half of my lunch, but he struggled to finish his second dog. The moral of the story is, don't just walk by Woody's. Make sure to stop in and order a dog... and then take a walk around Bushnell Park to burn off the calories!
I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for an early afternoon snack. I am not sure where I heard about Woodys but ever since I had, I wanted to try it. The problem was their hours and so I made sure to make it a priority whenever I had a free day in Hartford. The inside of Woodys ended up being quite crowded during our visit. The reason behind that being that they were having a toy drive and so a number of toys were spilled out around the counter where you order/pick up. Besides that they had a number of lunch table type seats strewn about the restaurant and then a chalkboard menu as well as a laminated menu with their dog specials. On this day after perusing the menu I decided on the deputy dog to go. The menu told me that it consisted of a hot dog with pulled pork, BBQ sauce and cheese on top of it. After I had ordered I noticed a sign saying that man vs food was there and had decided that was the best hot dog they have ever had. Score one for good decisions! I waited around for less than 5 minutes before my hot dog was ready and I was leaving. Whenever I opened up the foil I immediately noticed what looked like a foot long hot dog smothered in BBQ and cheesy goodness. The bun also ended up looking like Texas toast which was a sure bonus in my book. Go big or go home! Even at this point I can't say that I expected much from it. So the hot dog was a total surprise whenever I bit into it and it was really good. The cheese, BBQ sauce and pulled pork toppings were great and for awhile I felt like I was eating a buttery (due to the bun) pulled pork sandwich. Whenever I was finally able to try the hot dog I ended up thinking that it was pretty good as well. The bottom line for me is that I would head back to Woodys again in the future. No it is not the most healthy food and the inside of the restaurant doesn't exactly help either but dang did it taste pretty good.
My husband and I live in West Palm Beach, Fl but stop here every time we are in town! We got married in Hartford in May and the guys had a pre-wedding lunch here the day of. I was so jealous I made someone bring me a hot dog while I was getting ready! The photos of our wedding day will now forever feature a picture of me eating my woody's hot dog before putting on my wedding dress, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Being from south Florida most of our wedding party consisted of hard core dolphins fans, so their dolphins bar was quite a treat for everyone! Definitely a must stop for any Florida Dolphins fans out there.
